STATEMENT OF THE JOB:

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is an integral member of the on-site maintenance team responsible for ensuring safe affordable housing is provided and maintained for tenants who live in buildings managed by POP Management, the housing office of Catholic Charities, Brooklyn & Queens. The Facility Maintenance Technician is responsible for the supporting critical areas of management.

The Facilities Maintenance Technician ensures the Agency Mission and Best Practices are upheld and modeled for other staff, while promoted to tenants and the broader community in which our programs work. Performs skilled maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other physical structures. Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs facilities mechanical components and electrical systems in accordance with internal requirements, manufacturer's specifications and safety policies.

  • Implement general maintenance and preventative maintenance requirements throughout the portfolio.
  • Establish and schedule formal preventative maintenance program in accordance with building requirements and life safety codes throughout the portfolio.
  • Provide onsite support and assistance to general needs of buildings when necessary.
  • Provide and assist with the training of maintenance staff.
  • Provide and implement regular inspection of critical building systems throughout the portfolio.
  • Actively maintain communication with field, central office staff, and vendors to ensure service delivery is compliant with government regulations and Agency mission.
  • Support field staff to secure and ensure services needed at buildings for inspections and related maintenance projects.
  • Collaborate as part of team responsible to ensure that the building provides a safe and healthy environment for its residents; remain up to date on basic safety standards
  • Respond to 24-hour facility emergencies following Agency procedure.
  • In conjunction with the Regional Property Manager schedule, supervise and evaluate maintenance staff.
  • Conduct building tours; represent the building and agency best practices.
  • Attend trainings as requested.
  • Take and send photos of building as requested.
  • When required, provide support and assistance to other Agency buildings when necessary.
  • When required, cover front desk and answer main building phone.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Provide back-up coverage to other POP managed facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor Degree Preferred, may be waived for 5 years demonstrated experience.
  • FDNY Certificates of Fitness are required as follows:
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness Category F-58 for Fire Safety Director required must obtain within 6 months of hire
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness Category F-59 for Emergency Action Plan Director required must obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Cat S95 Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems and Cat S12 City Wide Sprinkler System must obtain within 6 months of hire,
  • Cat S95 Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems and Cat S13- City Wide Standpipe System must obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Russian) preferred.
  • Ability to use basic tools and operate machinery (plumbing snake/snow thrower/leaf blower/Waxer/Buffer/etc.)
  • Ability to appropriately assess/de-escalate/intervene in crisis.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule providing evening, weekend, and holiday coverage as needed.
  • Ability to respond to 24-hour emergency phone.
  • Able to travel to multiple locations within the five boroughs as needed.
  • Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 60 pounds.
