Location: Demakes YMCA, Lynn, MA and Leo Building

FLSA Status: Full Time Hourly

Hourly: $17-$25

Tuesday-Saturday:

  • Tuesday-Friday: 11AM-7PM
  • Saturday: 8AM-4PM

Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician supports the daily maintenance and cleanliness of the YMCA facility to ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for members, staff, and visitors. This hands-on position focuses on routine repairs, painting, and general upkeep of the building and grounds. The Facilities Maintenance Technician is an essential member of the team who takes pride in the facility’s appearance and functionality and is skilled in general maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilities Maintenance
  • Perform daily walk-throughs to assess and address facility needs.
  • Complete general repair work including painting, patching, light carpentry, and minor plumbing or electrical tasks.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment by supporting janitorial tasks as needed.
  • Monitor and restock supplies for maintenance and custodial needs.
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down rooms and equipment for programs and special events.
  • Receive and organize deliveries and supplies.
  • Preventative & Emergency Maintenance
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs.
  • Carry out basic preventative maintenance duties.
  • Respond to urgent facility issues as needed (may include early morning, evening, or weekend shifts on occasion).
  • Report safety concerns and larger repair needs to the Facilities Director

Collaboration & Support

  • Collaborate with branch leadership to ensure facility standards are maintained.
  • Support outside vendors or contractors working on-site.
  • Communicate clearly with staff and members to maintain a positive environment.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.
  • Embrace and model the YMCA mission and core values.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in building maintenance, painting, custodial work, or a related field.
  • Skilled in painting, light repairs, and general maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools and performing physical tasks.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and takes initiative.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including climbing, bending, and standing for long periods.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., email, digital work orders).
  • Willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This position requires physical labor both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Must be able to move equipment, climb ladders, shovel snow, and operate tools or light machinery as needed. The schedule may include early mornings or evenings based on facility needs.
