Job Shift: DaySUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Facilities Maintenance Apprentice is an entry level position within the maintenance department and will focus on the general repairs of the facilities and assist the Facilities Mechanics team by performing tasks related to preventative maintenance, mechanical machine repairs, inspection and testing of equipment, building maintenance, and specific projects. This person will report to the Barkley Seed Maintenance Supervisor.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Handle basic repairs and maintenance
• Conduct routine inspections of premises and equipment
• Communicate with Supervisor when repairs/maintenance requires outside expert assistance
• Assist in response to emergency calls regarding to facilities issues throughout the entire facility and associated BSI buildings.
• Assist with repairs and troubleshooting support for compressed air systems and generator equipment.
• Assist the building and equipment maintenance teams with general building repairs, electrical troubleshooting and repairs, and other general maintenance activities to include plumbing related issues.
• Perform written work orders for tracking of all associated repairs and preventative maintenance activities.
• Work a flexible schedule including off‐shifts, weekends, nights and holidays.
• Perform various other duties as directed, including assistance with other departmental issues. Perform non‐routine tasks that support the business needs as assigned.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATION/FORMAL TRAINING

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Trade School Certification or Courses in plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, process cooling, and welding is a plus but not required

QualificationsEXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• General understanding of mechanical repairs
• Knowledge in some of the following: HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Painting, and general maintenance and tool usage
• Forklift operation strongly preferred

ESSENTIAL ABILITIES

• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Adaptable to a fast paced, shifting work environment; willing to remain flexible to accommodate changing business conditions, work requirements and scheduling needs. Must have ability to work with changing technology.
• Attention to detail, ability to focus on the project or task at hand and consistently deliver error free results.
• Basic knowledge of protective equipment requirements, Lock‐Out/Tag‐Out, Fall Protection, OSHA, FDA, and GMP as they apply to maintenance personnel.
• Bi-lingual proficiency in English and Spanish a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Flexibility to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time as needed.
• May be required to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
• Hand dexterity and strength.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work to be performed in an industrial manufacturing/processing environment: indoors and outdoors.
• May be required to work in outside weather conditions.
• Uneven walking surfaces, heavy machinery, forklift traffic, and loud noise.
