Role Purpose

The Facilities Process Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, optimization, operation, and reliability of facility systems and process utilities. This role works closely with cross-functional teams to improve system performance, support capital projects, troubleshoot operational issues, and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in engineering principles, hands-on experience with facility systems, and the ability to manage projects and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize facility and utility systems such as HVAC, chilled water, boilers, compressed air, water treatment, gas distribution, and related infrastructure.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase system efficiency, reliability, capacity, and safety.
  • Lead or support root cause investigations for system failures, process deviations, and equipment performance issues; recommend and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop, review, and update engineering documentation, including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), operating procedures, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Support the planning, design review, installation, commissioning, startup, and turnover of new equipment and facility upgrade projects.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, EHS, and project teams to support daily facility operations and long-term improvements.
  • Evaluate system performance using process data, trends, and key performance indicators; prepare reports and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Ensure facility systems and engineering activities comply with applicable regulatory requirements, internal standards, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in risk assessments, hazard reviews, and change management processes for facility modifications and system improvements.
  • Provide technical guidance to technicians, operators, and junior engineers as needed.
  • Support contractor oversight, vendor coordination, and project execution activities.
  • Assist with budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning for assigned projects and maintenance activities.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in facilities engineering, process engineering, manufacturing, utilities, or a related industrial environment.
  • Working knowledge of facility utility systems and infrastructure support processes.
  • Experience troubleshooting process or utility system issues and implementing improvements.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, PFDs, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with engineering and maintenance systems.

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or other design/documentation tools.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, equipment installations, and commissioning activities.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety and environmental regulations.
  • Experience with CMMS, BAS/BMS, SCADA, or process control systems.
  • Project management experience or formal project coordination responsibilities.

The range for this position is $84,932.00 - $116,782.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
