Job Responsibilities:

Summary:

To support manufacturing operations by maintaining, trouble shooting, installation and repairing all facilities and manufacturing equipment in a safe orderly fashion as directed by the maintenance area/shift leader.

  1. Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electrical distribution systems including electric motors, electric controls, fire alarms, and clock systems.
  2. Performs routine electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs or fluorescent lamps and repairing ballast and light fixtures.
  3. Make rough sketches; estimate cost, time, and materials of electrical work
  4. Installs electrical services, troubleshoots, and repairs new equipment and systems.
  5. Research, purchases and inventories equipment parts, chemicals, and supplies.
  6. Monitors work done by outside contractors for adherence to National Electrical Code Requirements and reports back to supervisor.
  7. Maintains appropriate service and repair records.
  8. Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
  9. May train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area.
  10. Assists and serves as back up to other Maintenance employees.
  11. To work in a safe, quality minded, and productive manner with a sense of urgency to achieve maintenance deadlines and to attain production priorities as scheduled.
  12. Obtain and attend training for professional development and to stay current on maintenance and safety requirements and other training as required.
  13. Complete correspondence, forms and reports using personal computer and required software.
  14. May be required to adjust shifts as necessary.
  15. Communicates with assistant maintenance manager and maintenance area/shift leaders and other plant personnel about maintenance concerns, providing complete action plans and status reports as and when required.
  16. Handle confidential information on a regular basis.
  17. Attend daily pre-shift meetings and carry out assigned workloads as directed by Shift/Area Leader.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: (These qualifications represent the minimum requirements of the position. Employees will be required to possess the ability and aptitudes to perform the duties proficiently.)

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a Sponsored, private (in-house), military, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job work and Journeyperson status as an electrician.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of electrical theory and methods, materials, tools, equipment, and systems used in the electrical trade.
  • knowledge of applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of all electrical distribution systems (24-12K volts); methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform various computer functions including Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of trades related to building maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of a variety of building procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of machinery, equipment, and tools necessary for the maintenance and repair of public buildings.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skill in reading and following blueprints and assembly instructions as appropriate to trade.
  • Skills in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Skill in using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license, may be required to pick up parts and supplies.
  • Certification in maintaining HVAC equipment.
  • Must have good organizational skills.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a boom/scissor lift license.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 40 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing, or walking.
  • Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades.
  • Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical and other environmental hazards.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Must be able to work in various locations within and outside the manufacturing plant.
  • Must be able to rotate working shifts and weekend overtime to meet department requirements with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Exposed regularly to elements such as temperature and noise.
  • Safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electronic and mechanical equipment.
  • Must be comfortable with working at heights and within confined spaces.
