Job Description

JOB TITLE: Project Manager, Construction

This position serves as Mississippi Power’s on-site representative for major construction and renovation projects. This position is the primary liaison between the Company and all external contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and other external entities that are associated with a large-scale construction or renovation project. This position also provides coordination of all construction activities with internal departments including Power Delivery, Security and Technology. The job exists to ensure that construction agreements between Mississippi Power Company and external contractors are applied as written or changed only with appropriate approvals. This position reports to Gulfport and requires up to 75% daytime travel to customer locations, along with occasional overnight travel as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • A four-year college degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of five years or more of experience with commercial construction projects is required.
  • Skills required include managing multiple projects, prioritizing needs, maintaining positive communications with internal clients and external contractors, and organization.
  • Project management skills necessary to simultaneously manage multiple projects at different locations is a must.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and explain construction drawings to customers and end users is required.
  • Demonstrated customer focus and the ability to collaborate with customers and end users while managing project scope, schedule and budget.
  • Knowledge of commercial construction disciplines (HVAC systems, civil site design and engineering, roofing systems, paving designs, knowledge of concrete design and installation, engineering testing techniques, structural systems, fire systems, plumbing, electrical) is preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently with little onsite supervision.
  • Must have the ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion.
  • Significant statewide overnight travel is required.
  • Must be familiar with OSHA regulations as they relate to the construction industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, and local authorities to support permitting processes and ensure full compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with the ability to effectively utilize construction management software and interpret, review, and work with drawings using platforms such as AutoCAD and Revit.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide full-service project management services
    • Ensure that assigned construction and renovation projects are completed safely and in accordance with all company guidelines, building codes, legal requirements, and contract agreements.
    • Coordinate project activities for multiple construction projects as the primary on-site MPC representative throughout the State of Mississippi.
    • Manage project scope, budget and schedules for construction projects.
    • Maintain honest, ethical, and supportive relationships with coworkers, clients, and other business associates.
    • Serve as the primary liaison between MPC, contractor, and design team to proactively coordinate resolution of significant field issues or scope changes, ensuring clear communication, timely decision-making, and alignment on cost, schedule, and design impacts.
  • Advise and assist on constructing and maintaining company facilities to internal clients.
  • Provide prompt assistance and recommendations to internal clients on solutions to facility-related problems.
  • Maintain knowledge of new commercial construction techniques by involvement in industry training and trade exhibitions.
