A Brief Overview
The Facilities Apprentice supports the Stormont Vail Health Facilities Services team by assisting with the maintenance and operation of the organization's buildings, systems, and grounds. This hands-on apprenticeship provides structured training and experience across multiple trades, including general maintenance, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, refrigeration, heating/air, painter, hydraulics, plant operations, and machine repair. Under the guidance of experienced technicians, the apprentice develops the skills necessary to ensure a safe, functional, and comfortable environment for our patients, visitors, and team members.

Education Qualifications

  • Enrollment or interest in a trade, vocational, or technical program in building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, or related field Preferred

  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrates the ability to listen and respond appropriately.

  • Ability to understand, absorb, and retain program curriculum content.

  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and willingness to learn.


What you will do

  • Understands the course curriculum and performance expectations for successful completion of the Apprenticeship.

  • Recognizes their limitations and functions only within the duties they have been deemed competent to perform.

  • Assist in the maintenance, repair, and operation of building systems including plumbing, HVAC, and refrigeration.

  • Learn to perform preventive maintenance tasks such as filter replacement, lubrication, inspection, and basic equipment servicing.

  • Support general facility upkeep, including lighting, flooring, doors, and basic carpentry repairs.

  • Participate in groundskeeping duties such as mowing, trimming, snow removal, and landscape maintenance.

  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of maintenance shops and work areas.

  • Respond to service requests promptly and courteously to support departmental and clinical operations.

  • Follow all Stormont Vail Health safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance standards.

  • Engage in on-the-job training, mentorship, and classroom instruction as part of the Facilities Apprenticeship program.


Travel Requirements

  • 10% Travel between the various Stormont Vail Health locations
