Job Description

Structural Fabricator Reporting to
Workshop Manager/ Production Manager Qualifications & Certifications

High school diploma or equivalent qualification

CW certified welder

Excellent command of English, both in Speaking and Writing

Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate)

Certified training program/course (e.g. from IIW or ITI)

Proven experience as a Fabricator or similar role within the manufacturing industry.
Experience

Minimum 7 – 9 Years of experience in the field of shipbuilding/ marine Skill / Attributes / Competencies

Knowledge of using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA etc.)

Technical knowledge of shipbuilding processes and materials

Knowledge of metals, tools, welding machines, and cutting equipment (saws, squares, calipers etc.)

Ability to read and interpret technical documents, product schematics and fabrication drawings

Proficiency in welding, cutting and shaping techniques.

Proficient in application of basic mathematics, fabrication and welding techniques.

Diligent and professional executions of assigned work up to the required standards of quality and time.

Understanding of welding specifications, codes and symbols.

Knowledge of all phases of steel repairs according to sketches and drawings such as fitting, cutting by oxy torch and tack welding.

Ability to develop templates and fabrication jigs.

Attention to detail and quality control.

Effective communication and teamwork skills

Knowledge of addressing and resolving problems and other work related issues

Ability to work independently

Prevent wastage of materials.

Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing and equipment (face-shield, gloves etc.)

Main Responsibilities
and Tasks
• Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings and diagrams, design specification to determine project
requirements.
• Measures and marks metal plate, pipes and other materials for cutting.
• Determines the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
• Cuts, grinds and shapes metal plates, pipes and other materials using various tools and machinery.
• Setting up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered
saws to match measurements)
• Operates angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
• Inspects and tests the completed work to ensure quality, accuracy and adherence to specifications.
• Maintains and stores tools, machinery and equipment in a condition that does not compromise
safety.
• Coordinates with other fabricators, welder and engineers, designers and shipbuilders to ensure
efficient production.
• Ensures all necessary documentation, records, reports and data are completed and collated and
appropriately archived.
• Keeps the direct supervisor informed by reporting the progress, raising concerns and receives
instructions from supervisor.
• Aligns components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
• Welds components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions
(vertical, horizontal or overhead).
• Repairs machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
• Ensures all fabrication and welding consumable readily available.
• Maintains and ensures a clean, safe and organized work environment in compliance with
company and safety regulations.
• Ensures all portable tools and equipment are tracked, inspected serviced & kept fit for continued
use.
Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality Responsibilities
• Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work in accordance with the established safety
standards and work practices.
• Follows safety guidelines, wear personal protective equipment(PPE)
• Ensures all accidents / incidents / near misses / hazards are immediately reported and relevant paper work is
completed.
• Participates in Health, Safety & Environment communication and consultation;
• Complies with IHC Quality and HSE Management System and Policies;
