We believe our employees’ success is integral to our mission, which is why we prioritize work-life balance, personal development, and fostering a sense of belonging. In addition to providing opportunities to thrive, we offer competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits to attract and retain top talent ready to make a meaningful impact. As part of the Ventus Solutions team, you’ll collaborate with government and industry leaders to develop constructive architecture models that inform decision-making at the highest levels of the Department of Defense. As an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) we value curiosity, collaboration, and excellence, and we’re committed to supporting your professional growth through mentorship, career development, and a culture of continuous learning. Join a team where your ideas matter, your expertise drives impact, and your work advances the mission.

Ventus Executive Solutions is seeking a skilled Extra-Large Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (XLUUV) Engineer. In this remote role, you will provide direct support to the Navy’s XLUUV program, serving as a liaison among the program office, fleet, original equipment manufacturer (OEM), and ISEA on concerns involving vehicle operations, training, maintenance, and logistics. You will review contractor submittals for accuracy, adequacy, and compliance with requirements; develop maintenance availability plans; and coordinate or assist with maintenance and operational events, including maintenance availabilities, land-based vehicle movements, and at-sea events. You will develop expertise in sortie planning and direct the efforts of the sortie planning team, assist with troubleshooting vehicle faults, and develop and review maintenance procedures for technical accuracy and executability. You will also help establish vehicle sustainment processes and procedures that capture institutional knowledge, build Navy independence, and reduce reliance on OEM support. This mission-critical opportunity is ideal for a leader who can apply deep submarine operational and engineering experience, work through ambiguous technical challenges, and influence stakeholders without direct authority while helping the Navy safely operate, test, and sustain one of its most advanced undersea capabilities. Join our innovative team and contribute to impactful national security initiatives.

Work Location: Remote

Travel: 25%

Clearance: Active Secret clearance required, with ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret (TS) clearance if required.

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of submarine operational experience.
  • Post-Department Head (DH) submariner with a strong engineering and submarine maintenance background.
  • Demonstrated experience in shipyard or ISEA-level maintenance, troubleshooting, and availability planning across O-, I-, and D-levels.
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical data, engineering drawings, test procedures, and pseudo-code/software interface documentation.
  • Hands-on experience supervising or executing complex system repairs and troubleshooting at the deck-plate level.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in ambiguous environments or with incomplete technical data.
  • Ability to lead and influence without direct authority, using collaboration and relationship-building to drive outcomes.

Desired Experience:

  • Post-Commanding Officer (CO) submariner with strong operational experience.
  • Prior experience working in or with NUWC, ISEA, or other Navy sustainment organizations.
  • Knowledge of unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV) systems or advanced submarine systems.
  • Experience with technical manual development, training system design, and/or knowledge-capture initiatives.
  • Familiarity with balancing operational availability requirements against risk-based maintenance decisions.
  • Track record of leading cultural change and building team independence.
