Basic Functions
The Student Success Center Tutor provides comprehensive academic support to students through structured individual and small group tutoring in assigned subject areas. The tutor facilitates student learning by reinforcing course content, promoting effective study strategies, and fostering academic self-efficacy while encouraging independent learning and appropriate utilization of institutional resources. The role supports the broader mission of student persistence, retention, and completion.
Position Duties
25% - Direct Academic Tutoring and Instruction
Provide individualized and group-based tutoring aligned with course curricula, learning outcomes, and faculty expectations. Assist students in clarifying concepts, practicing skills, and applying knowledge within assigned disciplines while maintaining a student-centered, developmental approach.
25% - Academic Skill Development and Learning Strategies
Support students in developing transferable academic skills, including study strategies, time management, note-taking, test preparation, and problem-solving techniques. Reinforce learning behaviors that promote long-term academic success rather than task completion alone.
25% - Faculty and Staff Collaboration and Student Outreach
Collaborate with faculty, advisors, and Student Success Center staff to support student learning through outreach initiatives, referrals, classroom support efforts, and indirect academic assistance. Communication trends, common challenges, and resource needs to appropriate personnel to enhance student support services.
25% - Professional Engagement and Program Support
Participate in required training, meetings, assessment activities, and professional development. Contribute to a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that reflects the mission and values of the Student Success Center.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge

High school diploma or equivalent

Eligibility for employment under institutional hiring guidelines
Availability to work scheduled tutoring hours, including peak academic periods.
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree from a regionally accredited institution
Coursework or training in education or student development
Familiarity with andragogy
Experience working in a community college or student support environment
