The Extra Help Assistant - Peer Prevention Coach supports grant-funded campus prevention and wellness initiatives through educational programming, outreach, resource distribution, Narcan awareness, data collection and reporting, and promotion of wellness and belonging. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • General knowledge and experience with movement-based activities.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Currently enrolled at UA Little Rock or actively pursuing their education at UA Little Rock.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Connect directly with fellow students during campus events, movement-based activities, and pop-up tabling events to share prevention and mental wellness resources, Narcan information in an approachable, relatable way.
  • Assist with assembling, stocking, and distributing prevention resources, educational materials, and wellness kits at high traffic campus locations and recreation areas.
  • Partner with staff leads to help facilitate interactive wellness workshops, physical activity sessions, and campus safety demonstrations tailored to student groups.
  • Serve as a visible, trusted student ambassador for campus prevention, actively promoting positive coping mechanisms, and available campus community wellness resources and networks.
  • Record participation numbers and resource distribution metrics after outreach events, while sharing valuable feedback from the student body to help shape future grant activities.
  • Attend team meetings and training sessions to help brainstorm creative outreach ideas, social media campaigns, and engaging wellness events that resonate with students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of university life, student culture, and the support services available across campus;
  • General interest in or knowledge of physical fitness, outdoor recreation, strength training, and active lifestyle habits;
  • Understanding of how to approach sensitive topics with empathy, respect, and zero judgement;
  • Skilled at speaking comfortably with peers, breaking down safety information into easy to understand terms;
  • Ability to listen attentively to fellow students, validate their experiences, and guide them to appropriate resources;
  • Practical skill in hosting pop up tables, organizing resource distribution displays, and assisting with active wellness events;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively alongside staff leads, fellow peer coaches, and campus partners.;
  • Skilled at accurately recording activity logs, resource distribution counts, and event participant numbers;
  • Ability to build instant rapport, trust, and approachable connections with a wide variety of student groups;
  • Ability to bring high energy, enthusiasm, and a welcoming attitude to physical wellness activities and campus prevention outreach;
  • Ability to follow through on assigned outreach shifts and handle resources responsibly;
  • Ability to stay flexible and confident during dynamic campus prevention events, outdoor activities, or shifting event schedules;
  • Ability to model positive, safe, and healthy choices while representing the Prevention Through Strength Grant program.
