Job Description


A leading import and distribution firm seeks an External Sales Business Development Manager to grow their business. This role suits a high-output "hunter" who excels at navigating the full sales lifecycle, from identifying untapped opportunities to closing high-value agreements that sustain the organisation's growth.


Key Responsibilities


  • Business Development:

    Proactively identify and engage potential B2B clients to build a robust pipeline of new business opportunities.


  • Strategic Account Management:

    Act as the primary point of contact for new and evolving accounts, ensuring seamless onboarding and long-term value delivery.


  • Market Analysis:

    Monitor industry trends and competitor activity to position the Client’s import portfolio effectively within the South African market.


  • Client Engagement:

    Conduct professional on-site consultations and product demonstrations to showcase the technical and commercial advantages of the Client's offerings.


  • Sales Forecasting:

    Maintain accurate records of sales activities, conversions, and revenue targets to support executive decision-making.


Requirements


  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in external sales or business development, specifically within an import, wholesale, or distribution environment.

  • Proven history of meeting and exceeding aggressive sales targets and successfully "hunting" for new business.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate at a senior management level.

  • A valid South African Driver’s Licence is essential for frequent client site visits.

  • A self-motivated, collaborative professional with a resilient approach to business development.

Required Software Skills:

  • CRM Proficiency (e.g., Zoho CRM, Salesforce, or similar)

  • Microsoft Office Suite (MS Excel and PowerPoint for client presentations)

  • Virtual Meeting Platforms (Microsoft Teams/Google Meet/Zoom)
