Job Description

As the External Affairs Manager for Riot Games China, you will report to the Head of Public Affairs, China. You will help the company stay on top of regulatory developments across China’s gaming and internet industries, drive the maintenance and application of relevant licenses, and build effective working relationships with external bodies and industry associations. By translating complex policy environments into clear, actionable business recommendations, you will support the company in making decisions that are good for the business and help Riot Games operate and grow with confidence in the Chinese market.

Responsibilities:

  • Track, analyze, and synthesize policy developments across China’s gaming and internet sectors; provide timely briefings and actionable recommendations within a compliance framework to support sound business decision-making
  • Drive license applications including but not limited to game licenses and other content approvals; coordinate across local teams and global teams to keep submissions accurate and on schedule
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with external bodies and industry associations; know the processes, navigate the right channels, and keep communication lines open
  • Respond quickly when regulatory or external affairs issues arise; coordinate resources to resolve matters efficiently within the bounds of applicable policy and regulation
  • Help establish and maintain external affairs communication channels and platforms to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly
  • Support teams on content risk assessment, classification, and compliance-related decisions
  • Work closely with internal teams to support public affairs and related communications work

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in public affairs, external affairs, or a related field; gaming or internet industry background preferred
  • Strong understanding of China’s gaming and internet industries, with the ability to apply that knowledge to make sound judgments and decisions on the job
  • Hands-on experience with game license applications and content publishing qualification processes
  • Strong crisis response instincts — calm under pressure, able to act decisively with incomplete information
  • Strong cross-functional coordination skills; able to bring together internal teams and partner resources to get things over the line
  • Excellent written and spoken Chinese; working proficiency in English, with fluency a plus

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience at a multinational company, or a background in law relevant to regulatory affairs
  • Direct experience in a public affairs role at a leading gaming company or internet platform
  • Familiarity with esports, live events, or entertainment content regulatory frameworks

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes the delight of players. We will be looking at your past studies, experience, and your personal relationship with games. If you embody player empathy and care about players' experiences, this could be your role!
