Expert VMware/Wintel System Engineer

Location: Hybrid (On-site in Hasselt & Willebroek, Belgium)
Start Date: 01 September 2026
Contract Duration: Until 30 June 2027
Workload: Full-time (100%)

We are looking for an experienced Expert VMware/Wintel System Engineer to support the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of a complex hybrid IT infrastructure during a major datacenter transformation program. The role focuses on modernizing legacy environments, supporting operations, improving security, and implementing cloud-enabled infrastructure solutions.

You will collaborate closely with infrastructure and operations teams, contribute to infrastructure projects, evaluate new datacenter and cloud technologies, and provide technical leadership on VMware, Windows, Active Directory, Citrix, and related enterprise platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  Design, implement, and optimize enterprise VMware/Wintel infrastructure.
• 
  Support migration of legacy datacenter environments to hybrid infrastructure.
• 
  Manage VMware lifecycle, vCenter, ESXi, and Windows Server environments.
• 
  Administer Active Directory, Group Policies, Windows infrastructure, and file services.
• 
  Support Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops environments.
• 
  Implement and maintain Azure hybrid services including Azure Arc, Azure Update Manager, Azure Functions, and Entra ID.
• 
  Perform infrastructure automation using PowerShell scripting.
• 
  Support backup and monitoring platforms (Veeam & PRTG).
• 
  Participate in security-related infrastructure initiatives using BeyondTrust and PingCastle.
• 
  Evaluate new datacenter and cloud technologies.
• 
  Produce and maintain technical documentation.
• 
  Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and operations teams.
• 
  Participate in an on-call support rotation after onboarding.

Mandatory Requirements

• 
  Minimum 15 years of experience as a VMware/Wintel System Engineer.
• 
  At least 8 years of expert-level experience with enterprise infrastructure technologies.
• 
  Extensive experience with:

    VMware vCenter & ESXi

    VMware lifecycle management
  • 
    Windows Server (2008, 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025)

    Windows Active Directory
  • 
    Group Policy (GPO)
  •

    Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops
  •

• 
  Strong PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
• 
  Experience with datacenter migration projects.
• 
  Strong understanding of hybrid infrastructure and Microsoft-based platforms.
• 
  Native or near-native Dutch (CEFR C2).

Preferred Qualifications

• 
  Bachelor's or Master's degree in IT, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 
  Experience with cloud technologies (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
• 
  Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Demand, Capacity Management).
