Job Description

Up to £70,000 FTE | Full-Time | No OOH | Flexible Working Considered

Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking for a role where you can enjoy a varied caseload, a supportive team and a genuinely friendly working environment?

At Ely Vets for Pets, we’re looking for a dedicated Veterinary Surgeon to join our close-knit team of 2 Vets, 4 RVNs and 3 Receptionists.

We’re a team who genuinely enjoy working together. Collaboration, support and plenty of laughter are all part of everyday life here, and there’s usually chocolate in the staff room too!

Our practice combines the friendly, personal feel of a local clinic with the investment, benefits and career opportunities that come from being part of one of the UK’s leading veterinary groups.

The role

You’ll enjoy a varied first-opinion caseload, including routine consultations and surgery alongside the occasional emergency or more unusual case. You’ll be supported by our experienced nursing team and dedicated reception colleagues, allowing you to focus on providing excellent care to your patients and clients.

We’re looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who:

  • Is confident working within first-opinion practice
  • Is comfortable with occasional sole charge
  • Enjoys being part of a collaborative and supportive team
  • Is passionate about providing excellent patient and client care

This is a full-time opportunity with a 1 in 4 Saturday rota and no out-of-hours or overnight work.

We understand that everyone’s circumstances are different, so we’re also happy to discuss flexible working patterns that could accommodate childcare or other commitments.

A well-equipped practice

Our purpose-built practice provides an excellent environment to deliver high-quality clinical care, with facilities including:

  • Digital X-ray
  • Dental X-ray
  • New ultrasound machine
  • Laser therapy
  • Rhinoscope

While most of our patients are cats and dogs, we also occasionally see exotic species including lizards and rats, bringing some extra variety to the caseload.

Life in Ely

Our stand-alone practice is just a two-minute walk from Ely city centre, with its independent shops, cafés and impressive cathedral.

If you enjoy the outdoors, you’ll find picturesque walks along the River Great Ouse and nearby nature reserves, while excellent transport links put Cambridge, Newmarket, Peterborough and the Norfolk coast within easy reach.

It’s a fantastic location if you’re looking for a balance of city life, countryside and easy access to the coast.

What we offer

  • Salary up to £70,000 FTE, depending on experience
  • 28 days’ annual leave, including bank holidays
  • Generous CPD allowance with dedicated study time
  • Certificate funding and support
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Paid professional memberships, including RCVS, VDS and BVA
  • Exclusive colleague discounts and rewards, including 20% off at Pets at Home and the Vet Group

Interested?

Whether you’re actively looking for your next move or simply curious about what life at Ely could look like, we’d love to have an informal and confidential conversation.

About Pets at Home

Since 1991, when we were a wholesaler with a team of just 15, we’ve been focused on getting better every day. By putting pets before profit, working as a team and taking pride in everything we do, we’ve grown into a 451 store network with more than 8,913 colleagues working in our Stores, Grooming Salons, Distribution Centres and Support Office.

We are the UK’s leading pet specialist, providing pet owners with all their product needs, as well as our Vets for Pets practices and Grooming salons. We support our colleagues to work with pride and passion, to bring honesty and integrity to work every day, and to do it all with a sense of fun and fearlessness. We never shy away from having the important conversations and doing what we say we’ll do.

Our values and behaviours are practiced daily across the business and are what really makes us an enjoyable, exciting place to work. We're always striving to develop and reward our colleagues with an extensive in-house series of training programmes, wellbeing initiatives and a comprehensive benefits package. In 2018 we were delighted to be voted top 5 in the Great Place to Work UK’s Large category.

Our colleagues are central to the success of the business and are fully trained in pet care and dedicated to animal welfare. Pets are central to everything that we do and 93% of colleagues have their own pets too!
