Job Description

Join a growing practice where your ideas and development matter

We're looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, supportive team at our modern, purpose-built practice in Coventry Canley. As we approach our first anniversary, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of a growing clinic while maintaining the exceptional standards of care and customer service we're known for.

Our close-knit team is passionate about delivering high-quality veterinary care to the local community. You'll be joining a practice where collaboration, clinical excellence and professional development are genuinely encouraged.

About the team

You'll work alongside an experienced and dedicated support team, including:

  • Three qualified RVNs, each with up to five years' experience.
  • Two experienced receptionists.
  • A Practice Manager who is an RVN with over 15 years' post-qualification experience.
  • An experienced Veterinary Surgeon with an interest in exotics expected to join the team.

We're looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys working collaboratively and is keen to help develop both the practice and those around them.

A varied caseload with genuine clinical freedom

As a busy first-opinion practice, you'll see a broad range of medical and surgical cases. We believe in keeping as much work in-house as possible, only referring when it's truly in the patient's best interests.

To support this, we regularly work with visiting referral-level surgeons who perform advanced procedures within the practice while mentoring our team. This creates excellent opportunities to expand your surgical and clinical skills in a supportive environment.

Whether you have a particular area of interest or are looking to develop one, we'll support your ambitions.

Excellent facilities

Our purpose-built practice is fully equipped with modern diagnostic equipment, including:

  • Digital X-ray
  • Dental X-ray
  • Ultrasound
  • In-house laboratory
  • Biochemistry and haematology analysers
  • IDEXX Imagyst

Our current team also includes a Surgical Certificate holder and an OV, and we're always open to bringing in new skills and expertise.

About the practice

Located inside Pets at Home in Coventry Canley, our bright, modern clinic has been designed to provide an outstanding experience for both pets and clients.

While we're currently a quieter practice, we're actively growing our caseload without compromising on the high standards of personalised care we pride ourselves on. This makes it an ideal opportunity for someone looking to become an integral part of a developing practice.

Living and working in Coventry

Our practice enjoys an excellent location with:

  • Free on-site parking.
  • Cannon Park shopping and dining just minutes away.
  • Woodland walks nearby.
  • War Memorial Park only five minutes away.
  • Warwick University and Coventry University close by.
  • Coventry city centre within a 5–10-minute drive.

Our team also enjoys regular social events and spending time together outside of work.

What we offer

  • Salary up to £65,000 FTE, depending on experience.
  • Flexible working patterns.
  • No out-of-hours.
  • 28 days' holiday, rising to 33 days after two years' service.
  • Paid professional memberships.
  • Generous CPD allowance.
  • Life assurance (4x annual salary).
  • Contributory pension scheme.
  • Colleague Reward Hub with exclusive online and high street discounts.
  • Discounts across Pets at Home, Vets for Pets and Groom Room services.

Working hours

  • Up to 40 hours per week.
  • Currently no weekend commitment.
  • Planned introduction of Saturday opening only, working 2 in 4 Saturdays with time off in lieu during the week.
  • No night shifts.

About Pets at Home

Since 1991, when we were a wholesaler with a team of just 15, we’ve been focused on getting better every day. By putting pets before profit, working as a team and taking pride in everything we do, we’ve grown into a 451 store network with more than 8,913 colleagues working in our Stores, Grooming Salons, Distribution Centres and Support Office.

We are the UK’s leading pet specialist, providing pet owners with all their product needs, as well as our Vets for Pets practices and Grooming salons. We support our colleagues to work with pride and passion, to bring honesty and integrity to work every day, and to do it all with a sense of fun and fearlessness. We never shy away from having the important conversations and doing what we say we’ll do.

Our values and behaviours are practiced daily across the business and are what really makes us an enjoyable, exciting place to work. We're always striving to develop and reward our colleagues with an extensive in-house series of training programmes, wellbeing initiatives and a comprehensive benefits package. In 2018 we were delighted to be voted top 5 in the Great Place to Work UK’s Large category.

Our colleagues are central to the success of the business and are fully trained in pet care and dedicated to animal welfare. Pets are central to everything that we do and 93% of colleagues have their own pets too!
