Job Description

Experienced Leakage Technician

Find hidden losses. Protect vital water resources. Build your technical career with Tetra Tech.

Purpose and scope of the role:

Tetra Tech is seeking an experienced Leakage Technician to support the South East Water contract across Sussex. You will investigate clean water networks to identify leakage and unaccounted-for consumption, helping the client achieve key performance targets. Working alongside maintenance and field delivery teams, you will carry out network investigations, pinpoint leaks on public and private land, complete step testing and Pressure Zero Testing, and record findings through data collection applications. The role offers hands-on experience across a varied water network and the opportunity to contribute to essential infrastructure projects.

Your impact in this position:

In the short term, you will apply your technical expertise to improve leakage detection, data quality and repair outcomes. Over time, you will strengthen your capability across network investigation, asset surveying and water efficiency, while building trusted relationships with clients and operational teams. Your development will be supported through training, a personal development plan and a transparent career pathway within Tetra Tech’s global consulting and engineering network.

Core capabilities:

Leakage investigation

  • Demonstrable experience investigating water networks and identifying leakage and unaccounted-for consumption, with at least two years’ relevant water network experience.

Technical detection and testing

  • Competence in correlation, ground microphone use, noise logging, leak quantification, step testing and Pressure Zero Testing.

Network and asset surveying

  • Practical experience in utility tracing, asset surveying and working safely on public and private land.

Digital reporting and collaboration

  • Competent IT skills, with the ability to collect accurate data, produce clear reports and work effectively with maintenance teams and clients.

Safety, mobility and reliability

  • Full UK driving licence, willingness to work across Sussex and in varying weather conditions, including occasional night work, and the physical capability to lift inspection covers. Drug and alcohol testing applies to this role.

Skills, qualifications and experience:

At least two years’ water network experience and demonstrable experience in a comparable leakage role are required. A full UK driving licence and competent IT skills are also essential. EUSR Water Hygiene, EUSR DOMS and NRSWA Unit 2 accreditation are desirable. Further training and development will be supported by Tetra Tech.

Work patterns and locations:

This is a predominantly field-based role covering Sussex, with work scheduled around operational requirements and client targets. You should expect to work outdoors in all weather conditions and occasionally at night.
