Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Salary: Competitive compensation package based on experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The mechanic’s prime responsibility is to support construction operation by daily maintenance and repair of construction equipment
  • Performs maintenance and repair activities on various pieces of heavy equipment including but not limited to heavy-duty trucks, bull dozers, excavators, wheel loaders, off-road haul trucks, graders, and cranes.
  • Diagnoses, services and repairs various systems that are found on pieces of heavy equipment such as mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions, engines and hydraulic systems.
  • Diagnoses problems, disassembles units, repairs or replaces parts, and reassemble.
  • Understands the basic concepts of OEM software’s such as Caterpillar ET and Microsoft Excel. The ability to learn company software programs.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions in the equipment and repair. Experience in using welders, torch sets, plasma cutters, service truck cranes.
  • Conduct work with 100% integrity and professionalism.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience using welders, torch sets, plasma cutters, service truck cranes.
  • Decent computer proficiency
  • Position requires independent professional judgement and ability to resolve most work issues without management guidance.
  • Proficient in written and verbal business communications skills
  • Ability to receive written or oral instructions
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with office and field personnel
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Must be committed to contributing to a culture of safety, looking out for yourself and others.

Physical Requirements:

  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Move heavy objects (94 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less).
  • Move light objects (less than 94 pounds) long distances (more than 20 feet).
  • Heavy lifting with repeated stooping, carrying and bending continually over time (i.e., picks up materials and move to a different location).
  • Work long shifts with non-standard break times
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination, quick reaction times.
  • Able to work at heights of up to 100’ or more
  • Able to work in confined or enclosed spaces
  • Able to sit for long periods of time
  • Able to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots.
  • Able to walk moderate distances to reach work area (1/2 mile or more)
  • Able to Enter the cab of a vehicle that is 3.5 feet (or more) off the ground
  • Able to sit in the operator’s seat of equipment and safely reach all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc. required to safely operate the equipment (if authorized for that piece of equipment)
  • Capable of sitting in the operator’s seat of equipment and have an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows and/or mirrors (if authorized for that piece of equipment)
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
