About the Role:

As a Disability Support Worker, you will provide high quality, person centred support to participants with High Physical Support Needs and Complex Care requirements. This role is suited to experienced support workers who are confident delivering specialised care while promoting dignity, independence and quality of life.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support participants to achieve their individual goals while delivering safe, responsive and compassionate care within their home and the community.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high quality support to participants with complex physical disabilities, neurological conditions and high support needs.
  • Providing personal care, transfers and manual handling using a range of mobility equipment, including hoists and other assistive technologies.
  • Supporting participants with complex care requirements in accordance with individual care plans, clinical directions and organisational procedures.
  • Assisting participants with daily living activities, Supported Independent Living (SIL), respite, community participation and social engagement.
  • Accurately documenting supports provided, reporting changes in participant wellbeing and maintaining clear communication with the wider support team.
  • Building positive, respectful relationships with participants, families, allied health professionals and other stakeholders to deliver consistent, person centred supports.

Skills & Experience

We are seeking experienced Disability Support Workers who demonstrate:

  • Previous experience supporting participants with High Physical Support Needs and Complex Care requirements.
  • Experience providing personal care, manual handling and supporting participants requiring specialised mobility equipment.
  • Experience supporting participants with complex health conditions, neurological disorders or progressive disabilities.
  • Experience with High Intensity Supports in accordance with the NDIS Practice Standards is highly regarded.
  • Experience supporting participants with complex behaviours and Positive Behaviour Support Plans is highly regarded.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • A sound understanding of participant dignity, choice, privacy and person centred practice.
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Requirements (Current or Willing to Obtain)

  • Proof of Australian citizenship, permanent residency or a valid Australian work visa.
  • Queensland Open Driver Licence.
  • Queensland Working with Children Blue Card.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (Yellow Card).
  • Current First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009).
  • Infection Control Certificate.
  • National Police Check (issued within the last six months).
  • Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability, Aged Care or equivalent qualification.
  • Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
  • Willingness to complete participant specific and organisation required training.
  • Minimum 12 months' experience supporting participants with High Physical Support Needs, Complex Care or High Intensity Supports.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.
