Job Description

The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. Moreover, the BXDA aims to balance the need to seek appropriate punishment for certain crimes while recognizing when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. By recognizing these significant distinctions and acting accordingly, BXDA has established a standard of excellence in the representation of the Bronx community at large, which continues to grow stronger every day.

In furtherance of this mission, the Investigation Division is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Expeditor who will be responsible for providing the Rikers Island Prosecutions unit with analytical and investigative support.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Process all cases accurately and in a timely fashion.

Receive all new arrest paperwork from BLAP and separate cases into BLAP/Live or Supporting Depositions.

Screen all new arrest paperwork submitted to the DA's office.

Monitor the "arrest to complaint received" time frame in order to ensure that cases are not lingering unnecessarily.

Draft affidavits based on supporting depositions.

Handle incoming phone calls, determine nature of call and caller's identity before transferring or taking a message.

Submit all completed cases to e-arraignments expeditiously.

Break down folders and prepare for arraignment part.

All other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • An associate degree is preferred, or a High School diploma/GED and two (2) years working experience in a law firm, government agency, or other professional environments.
  • A valid New York State driver’s license with a minimum of one (1) years of driving experience is required and must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • Familiarity with general court services and functions preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong data entry skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively under deadlines.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Utilize excellent customer service skills to effectively communicate with all levels of the agency.
  • Exceptional organization, time management, and multitasking abilities.

  1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
  2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
