The Exercise Physiologist in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department is responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of individualized exercise programs for patients with cardiovascular disease. This role ensures the safe and effective delivery of exercise therapy as part of a multidisciplinary team aimed at improving patients' functional capacity, reducing risk factors, and enhancing overall quality of life.
Key responsibilities include conducting initial and ongoing exercise assessments, interpreting diagnostic results, ECG monitoring, and creating evidence-based exercise prescriptions tailored to patients' medical status, risk stratification, and personal goals. The Exercise Physiologist monitors patients during exercise sessions to ensure safety, responds to cardiac or medical emergencies per established protocols, and communicates patient progress with the healthcare team.
In addition to exercise supervision, the Exercise Physiologist provides education on lifestyle modification, including physical activity, stress management, and cardiovascular risk reduction strategies. This position requires strong clinical judgment, adherence to ACSM, AACVPR and CMS guidelines, and the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes and achieve departmental goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or a related field required. Master's degree in Exercise Physiology or related field preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire or transfer. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred. ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) or equivalent credential required or must be obtained within 90 days from time of hire or transfer.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in clinical exercise testing and prescription, preferably in a cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation setting required. Experience with ECG monitoring, risk stratification, and emergency response are strongly preferred. Familiarity with ACSM, AACVPR standards and CMS requirements for cardiac rehabilitation programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires frequent walking and standing and occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
