Job Description

[What the role is]

NEA is one of the government agencies facilitating efforts to address and mitigate climate change. NEA administers Singapore’s carbon tax regime under the Carbon Pricing Act, develops the eligibility criteria under the International Carbon Credit (ICC) Framework, and leads the compilation of Singapore’s greenhouse gas inventory. The Carbon Planning Division develops strategies and initiatives to drive the ICC framework, supports the implementation of cross-border carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects as a national decarbonisation pathway, and the international acceptance of new mitigation measures (including carbon accounting methodologies) to meet our climate targets.

[What you will be working on]

You will be responsible for developing and implementing initiatives under the ICC framework and evaluating carbon credit projects to ensure that they meet Singapore’s Eligibility Criteria. Your duties will include the following:

  • Develop and review the ICC framework in line with international standards and best practices to ensure carbon credits are of high environmental integrity.

  • Evaluate the environmental integrity of carbon crediting methodologies and their associated project types.

  • Participate in Implementation Agreement negotiations with host countries on eligible carbon crediting programmes and methodologies; and

  • Operationalise Implementation Agreements, including assessment and authorisation of carbon crediting projects.

[What we are looking for]

We are looking for driven, capable and committed officers who possess a strong desire to contribute to Singapore’s carbon transition, thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, are adept at working with multiple stakeholders and possess the following qualities:

  • At least 2 years of work experience in the climate change or sustainability field

  • Degree in Chemical, Electrical, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with relevant experience in carbon markets.

  • Possess strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.

  • Resourceful, meticulous, self-driven and able to work well both independently and in a team.

  • Strong ability to learn on the fly.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel, automation and AI tools.

  • Willing to travel overseas for International/regional meetings.

You will be working in a fast-paced and highly volatile environment that would require the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders at the same time.
