Executive – Yarn Technologist

(Based at Biyagama)

Noyon Lanka, originally a joint venture between a French lace company and MAS Holdings, is a global leader in lace design and production. With design libraries in France and Sri Lanka and production facilities across Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and China, Noyon creates unique lace designs for international brands. Its expertise extends to warp-knit solutions through the INNTRIX collection, catering to activewear, sportswear, and femtech markets. Noyon also pioneers sustainable solutions such as Planetones, a 100% natural dye solution for lace.

We are looking for an active team player to develop and maintain the supply chain within the sourcing strategy to source raw materials at cost competitive prices within the agreed quality, lead time and service levels whilst identifying the specific competencies and capacities of different suppliers and evaluating same in order to develop the right RM with the right supplier.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of new yarns taking into consideration supplier/cost/quality/technical parameters/fit for purpose (knitting) etc. in order to meet internal/external customer specific requirements or to support the yarn sourcing strategy of cost reduction/supplier rationalization etc.
• Using the FTD (Fische Technique Dessinateur)/ specification, calculate yarn consumption for each development/design/order based on the relevant consumption rate considering the impact on the aesthetics/technical parameters of lace and circulate information to the development/bulk teams in order to facilitate costing/procurement of yarn for development and bulk production whilst confirming the relevant yarn technical parameters accurately and obtaining agreement prior to introduction.
• Create vendor/material/beam material for all new yarns as and when required (SAP system update) and follow up the alteration plan/confirm final yarn details in order to ensure that system yarn details match exactly to what is physically allocated for the alteration/order.
• Carry out lot/supplier/yarn change testing at the internal lab/accredited external laboratories and follow through until results are presented to the technical teams, the go ahead is obtained, payment is made to the external labs, yarn is introduced, greige is produced and appraised before introduction to bulk production in order to ensure that they are consistent with the required technical specifications.
• Support on the process of issuing new yarn lot, new yarn, or new supplier for confirmed orders before giving commitment for yarn lead time, if there is a considerable deviation in yarns, request to plan 1st bulk and follow the internal lab dip process as and when required.
• Coordinate with suppliers to iron out yarn technical issues in order to ensure that all yarn purchased is fit for purpose.
• Participate in the weekly technical team meetings/ discussions, give constructive feedback/share supplier related constraints/issues and update the team of any such issues in order to obtain the collective approval of the team before introduction of yarns that do not meet the exact technical specifications.
• Co-ordinate with the commercial department and suppliers periodically in order to ensure timely, efficient and cost-effective deliveries and follow up development yarns until goods are received and payment made to suppliers.
• Monitor supplier performance, discuss/review terms/conditions, quality etc. and suggest improvements to suppliers’ shortcomings in order to build and sustain good business relationships in the long term (report preparation/ assisting.
• Maintain min-max reorder levels for standard articles (controlling of all raw material stock categories within its target levels, whilst ensuring required materials in required quantities are supplied in a timely manner to facilitate smooth production.
• Coordinate/liaise with the plant management accountant and update yarn price changes in order to error proof the accuracy in the SAP system once in 6 months (mid /year-end).
• Monitor monthly ageing/write off and scrapping (RM - yarn) stocks, ensure that the system is updated, report all details to finance, transfer agreed stocks to the relevant area and also control the quantum of written off stocks in order to ensure the cost to the organisation is reduced/controlled.
• Update weekly bulk rewinding plan along with the knitting planner in order to manage the production requirements and to effectively reduce unnecessary costs.
• As a member of the relevant KPI team, actively participate at all meetings and give constructive inputs/guidance in order for the organisation to improve the overall ratings, achieve the target and thereby the master plan/organisational goals.
• Provide analytical data, reports and forecast details to management to facilitate decision making.

Skills and Qualification:

• Bachelor's Degree in Textile Engineering, Textile Technology, or a related discipline from the University of Moratuwa (UOM) or a recognized institution.
• SLITTA qualification with 1-2 years of relevant industry experience, or National Diploma in Technology (NDT) with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
• Sound technical knowledge of yarn manufacturing processes, textile production operations, and production management systems.
• Strong understanding of textile manufacturing standards, quality requirements, and process optimization techniques.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to interpret production data and identify improvement opportunities.
