Job Description

Join Ascot Group, one of the world’s leading specialty risk underwriting organizations, at a pivotal moment in the continued growth of our global reinsurance platform.

Ascot is a modern, globally connected organization united by a common mission and purpose. Our greatest strength is our people, who thrive in a collaborative and entrepreneurial culture grounded in excellence, integrity, and a passion to find a better way—The Ascot Way.

The Ascot Way guides how we lead, underwrite, and serve our clients. Our platforms work together across products and geographies to deploy capital creatively through client-centric, risk-centric, and technology-centric strategies.

Built for resilience, Ascot combines strong financial security with bespoke solutions and world-class service before and after a claim. We help clients navigate complex risks through agility, collaboration, discipline, and thoughtful innovation.

Ascot is embedding artificial intelligence and automation across the organization to strengthen decision-making, efficiency, and outcomes. Our leaders are expected to champion responsible adoption, apply sound judgment to technology-enabled insights, and foster curiosity, critical thinking, and adaptability across their teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the vision, strategy, business plan, and financial performance of Ascot’s Property Facultative business, establishing clear priorities and performance expectations aligned with enterprise objectives, approved capacity, risk appetite, and return-on-capital targets.
  • Serve as the senior Property Facultative advisor to the President, Ascot Re, the Group Executive Committee, and other executive stakeholders on market conditions, competitive dynamics, emerging exposures, portfolio performance, capital deployment, and strategic opportunities.
  • Lead disciplined portfolio management across individual risks, renewals, hybrid structures, and automatic facilities, balancing growth, risk selection, pricing adequacy, aggregate exposure, diversification, volatility, and capacity allocation.
  • Drive profitable growth by identifying priority segments, distribution opportunities, new products, and differentiated solutions that address client needs while maintaining sustainable underwriting economics.
  • Cultivate executive-level relationships with cedants, brokers, and other trading partners, originate high-quality opportunities, and position Ascot as a preferred facultative partner recognized for expertise, responsiveness, and consistency.
  • Lead the negotiation of significant terms, pricing, structures, and conditions, exercising appropriate judgment and authority on complex or strategically important transactions.
  • Partner with leaders across Ascot’s U.S., Bermuda, and U.K. platforms to deliver integrated solutions, coordinate capital deployment, create cross-platform opportunities, and present a consistent market proposition.
  • Work closely with Actuarial, Analytics, Catastrophe Modeling, Finance, and Enterprise Risk to assess exposures and loss scenarios, monitor portfolio performance, and translate data into timely underwriting and capital decisions.
  • Champion responsible adoption of AI-enabled tools, automation, and advanced analytics to improve risk selection, pricing insight, workflow efficiency, portfolio management, and decision quality.
  • Build, lead, and retain a high-performing Property Facultative organization, establishing clear accountability while developing succession, strengthening technical capability, and fostering collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Claims, Operations, IT, Data Strategy, Legal and Compliance, Marketing, and Human Resources to deliver scalable operating capabilities, excellent client outcomes, effective governance, and strong talent results.
  • Maintain top-of-market service across a high-volume submission environment and ensure disciplined execution of underwriting records, deal documentation, reporting, reserving, premium administration, and claims coordination.
  • Ensure the business operates within all applicable underwriting authorities, risk controls, regulatory requirements, and governance standards, including those associated with Syndicate 1414.
  • Represent Ascot in industry groups, conferences, and market forums, enhancing the organization’s visibility, reputation, and influence across the global facultative marketplace.
  • Model The Ascot Way through inclusive, collaborative, entrepreneurial, and accountable leadership grounded in excellence, integrity, resilience, and a passion to find a better way.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree or relevant professional designation is preferred.
  • A minimum of 20 years of progressively responsible reinsurance experience, including substantial leadership experience in the U.S. facultative market.
  • Deep Property Facultative underwriting expertise, with a strong record of evaluating complex risks, structuring solutions, and exercising sound underwriting judgment; experience across additional specialty lines is advantageous.
  • Executive-level experience leading a significant underwriting business with direct accountability for strategy, profit and loss, portfolio performance, capital deployment, client relationships, governance, and talent.
  • Demonstrated success building, transforming, or scaling a business and delivering sustainable underwriting profitability and measurable financial results across market cycles.
  • Established relationships and credibility with senior executives, cedants, brokers, and other participants in the facultative reinsurance market.
  • Exceptional financial, analytical, and portfolio-management capabilities, including the ability to interpret underwriting, actuarial, catastrophe, exposure, and financial data and convert insights into decisive action.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute business plans, establish performance measures, allocate resources, and hold teams accountable for results.
  • Experience identifying and implementing operational improvements, including responsible use of AI-enabled tools, automation, and analytics to strengthen insight, efficiency, and decision quality.
  • Enterprise perspective and a collaborative record of partnering across Claims, Actuarial, Finance, Risk, Operations, Technology, Legal and Compliance, Marketing, and Human Resources.
  • Outstanding leadership and talent-management skills, with demonstrated success attracting, coaching, developing, and retaining diverse, high-performing teams and building strong succession pipelines.
  • Executive presence, sound judgment, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence boards, executive committees, clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead effectively through complexity and change while balancing growth, underwriting discipline, client needs, and enterprise priorities.
  • Unwavering commitment to integrity, regulatory compliance, inclusive leadership, and The Ascot Way.
