Job Description

The University of Chicago’s Biological Sciences Division (BSD) and the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCM) invite internal applications and nominations for the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) This executive position provides system-wide leadership for physicians, clinical operations, and ambulatory care across UChicago Medicine, with responsibility for advancing an integrated, high-performing clinical enterprise aligned with UCM’s mission, values, and strategic priorities. If appropriate, the EVP/COO will have an appointment in an academic department of the Biological Sciences Division at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

The Chief Clinical Officer is accountable for the development and execution of UCM’s enterprise clinical and ambulatory strategy, overseeing medical group and ambulatory operations across the Faculty Practice Plan, Medical Group, Clinically Integrated Network, service lines, department chairs, and ambulatory locations. Working in close partnership with academic, clinical, and operational leaders, the CCO strengthens physician alignment, improves operational and financial performance, advances continuum-of-care and value-based strategies, and supports growth across physician practices and ambulatory platforms.

The successful candidate will be a physician leader with significant experience in academic medical center or complex health system operations, demonstrated ability to lead across matrixed organizations, and a proven record of strategic execution and operational improvement. Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate, DO or equivalent; 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois.

Experience in ambulatory operations, physician alignment, and value-based care is strongly preferred.
