Job Description

Earn $65,000-$75,000 annually plus bonus potential as the Executive Sous Chef of an established, independent Philadelphia restaurant.

This is a hands-on kitchen leadership position for an experienced Sous Chef who can help run a busy operation, lead and develop a 5–10 person BOH team, and maintain consistent execution through both weekday and higher-volume weekend services.

The restaurant is a 120-seat casual concept with service ranging from approximately 40–75 covers during typical periods and reaching up to 250 covers during higher-volume periods.

You’ll work in a supportive, engaged environment where collaboration matters, but this is also a working kitchen leadership role. The right chef should be comfortable taking ownership of execution, organization, food safety, ordering, receiving, inventory, and the day-to-day details that keep a busy kitchen running well.

About the Role

The Executive Sous Chef will help lead daily BOH operations while maintaining consistency, organization, food quality, and kitchen standards.

This is a hands-on position. You should be comfortable working alongside the team during service, helping maintain a productive kitchen environment, and taking responsibility for the operational details that keep a busy restaurant running well.

This is an established, independent 120-seat casual restaurant in Philadelphia with a steady weekday business and significantly higher volume during peak periods and weekends.

Service typically ranges from approximately 40–75 covers, reaching up to 250 covers during higher-volume periods.

Responsibilities

  • Help oversee daily kitchen operations
  • Lead and support a BOH team of approximately 5–10 employees
  • Maintain food quality, consistency, and presentation
  • Execute and reinforce established recipes and procedures
  • Support kitchen preparation and service
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory management
  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards
  • Help organize kitchen workflow and station readiness
  • Train and coach kitchen employees
  • Communicate effectively with management and the BOH team
  • Maintain standards during high-volume services
  • Step into production and service as operationally necessary

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of relevant professional kitchen experience preferred
  • Previous Sous Chef, kitchen leadership, or comparable BOH experience
  • Strong understanding of restaurant kitchen operations
  • Experience with ordering, receiving, and inventory
  • Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation
  • Ability to follow and reinforce written recipes and instructions
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced restaurant environment
  • Able to work in a standing position and regularly reach, bend, and stoop
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • English proficiency required
