The Ship Manager position is important in our value chain as you are in relations with both our teams at sea and ashore. Within a container shipping line, your role is to ensure the operational monitoring of vessels voyages. You make sure that vessels voyages and port operations go smoothly by establishing the loading plans in compliance with safety rules and through the enforcement of the Line business policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure, in close cooperation with containership’s Captains/Second Officers, the good conditions of vessels seaworthiness throughout the voyage by: · Upholding high standards of stowage planning to ensure safe and maximum vessel utilization with minimum operational costs.
  • Manage end-to-end stowage process for a containership with stakeholders, apply best practices, ensure best stability, and trim conditions, while minimizing time at port.
  • Monitoring and managing special loadings: dangerous cargo, Reefers, Out of Gauge (OOG, Breakbulk) according to the international regulations (IMDG code, ISM…), the Group and Line’s instructions.
  • Evaluating the feasibility of Changes of Destination (COD) of some cargos according to their position on board, following the request of sales teams, Logistics Department, and partners.
  • Liaising with the Logistics team to optimize the repositioning of empty containers at the lowest cost.
  • Work closely with operations team to maintain schedule, reduce cost and optimize bunker consumption.
  • Performance reporting of vessel utilization, minimum ballast, restows and other key metrics associated with vessel stowage planning.
  • Participating in the development of statistics and ensure the monitoring of bunkers consumption.

Requirement:

  • Postgraduate degree with experience (+ 3 years min ) from a National Maritime School, ideally Merchant Navy deck officer, with an on-board containership experience , Logistics /transportation / supply chain management , Port/Terminal Operations or container terminal planning.
  • Fluent in English (both speaking and writing).
  • Good Communication skills. · Good command of IT tools.
  • Good knowledge of specific planning and/or vessels stability calculation software programs , ships building/ Naval Architecture.
  • Good knowledge of Dangerous Goods (DG) Regulations.
  • Good knowledge of international safety and security regulations (SOLAS , VGM , ISM…)
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Reactive, rigorous, and organized, you carry out and anticipate operational tasks , manage priorities and emergencies.
  • Hygiene, safety, and environment rules as well as regulatory framework knowledge.
  • Flexible approach of working hours (you may be expected to work on evenings/weekends).
