About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the heart of Nottingham City Council, supporting one of our Corporate Directors and their Directorate Leadership Team.

As an Executive Officer, no two days will be quite the same. You will help to keep a major Council Directorate organised, informed and focused on delivering its priorities. You will be trusted with high-profile work, gaining a unique insight into how decisions are made and how a large, complex organisation operates.

You will play a central role in supporting and coordinating executive decision-making and governance processes, managing deadlines and ensuring that reports and proposals are accurate, complete and ready for consideration. You will research and draft high-quality briefings, reports, presentations, speeches and correspondence, turning complex information into clear and accessible material.

You will also track important actions and commitments, support preparations for external visits and inspections, coordinate responses to complex enquiries and help improve systems and ways of working across the Directorate.

You will be a trusted source of coordination for the senior Directorate Leadership Team: anticipating what is needed, identifying gaps or risks and confidently working with senior colleagues to ensure that important work keeps moving.

The role offers exceptional breadth and exposure. It would suit someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in producing excellent work and wants to develop their experience of leadership, governance and public service at a senior level.

There are six Executive Officer posts available and successful applicants will be matched to the most appropriate Directorate based on experience. The six Directorates include: 1. Adult Social Care & Health 2. Children's & Education Services 3. Communities, Environment & Resident Services 4. Growth & City Development 5. Finance & Resources/Chief Executive's Office 6. Leadership & Executive Office

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• An understanding of governance, confidentiality and the political sensitivity of working in a local authority or similarly complex organisation.
• Exceptional attention to detail, including the ability to identify gaps, inconsistencies, risks and areas requiring further clarification.
• Excellent written communication skills, with experience of researching, drafting and quality-assuring reports, briefings, presentations or correspondence.
• Experience of coordinating complex work, projects or programmes involving a range of colleagues and senior stakeholders.
• Experience of managing competing priorities and delivering accurate, high-quality work to challenging deadlines.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand, interpret and summarise complex policies, legislation, data and other evidence.
• Excellent organisational skills and a systematic approach to recording decisions, monitoring actions and following work through to completion.
• Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement and the confidence to work constructively with colleagues at all levels of an organisation.
• A proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to work independently and use initiative.
