Expectations:

The Executive Medical Director serves as the senior physician leader for Huntington Health Physicians (HHP), providing strategic and clinical leadership to advance the organization’s mission of delivering exceptional, patient-centered care. In partnership with HHP and Huntington Hospital executive leadership, this role helps shape the direction and performance of the physician enterprise by strengthening physician engagement and alignment, advancing clinical quality and patient safety, and supporting effective and sustainable physician practices.

As the principal physician advisor to executive leadership, the Executive Medical Director brings a physician perspective to organizational strategy, operational priorities, and opportunities for growth and improvement. The role fosters strong collaboration between physicians and organizational leadership while promoting a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

EDUCATION:

Medical Degree (MD, D.O.) from an accredited medical school required.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

Minimum of five (5) years of physician leadership or clinical operations experience in an integrated medical group, health system, or comparable organization preferred.

Formal leadership training or a commitment to leadership development in healthcare administration, physician leadership, Lean management, or medical management preferred.

Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, quality improvement initiatives, physician engagement, operational performance, and strategic planning.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Required:

Current Physician and Surgeon License issued by Medical Board of California (MBC)

Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) number issued by DEA.

Current Board Certification in an ABMS- or AOA-recognized specialty; ongoing maintenance of certification, as applicable.

Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, accountability, sound judgment, and executive presence, with a record of clinical excellence and progressive physician leadership.

Strong strategic and systems-thinking skills, with the ability to translate organizational priorities into effective physician and clinical strategies.

Ability to build credibility, influence, and alignment among physicians, executives, operational leaders, and other stakeholders across complex organizational environments.

Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex clinical and business matters to physicians, executives, governing bodies, staff, and external stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to foster physician engagement, collaboration, accountability, inclusion, and a culture of continuous improvement.

Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret clinical, operational, financial, quality, and patient experience data and use insights to guide priorities and recommendations.

Ability to lead and influence organizational change, navigate competing priorities, resolve complex issues, and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.

Working knowledge of physician practice operations, clinical quality and patient safety, regulatory requirements, healthcare delivery, and evolving value-based care models.

Ability to effectively partner across clinical, operational, financial, and administrative functions while maintaining a patient-centered and physician-informed perspective.

Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality, ethical leadership, regulatory compliance, patient safety, and the responsible stewardship of organizational resources.

Pay Range: The estimated base rate for this position is $241,009.60 - $349,481.60.

Additional individual compensation may be available for this role through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
