Shape the Future of Equine Welfare Through World-Leading Research

The Hong Kong Jockey Club's Equine Welfare Research Foundation is seeking an exceptional scientific leader to drive groundbreaking research that advances the welfare, health, and performance of Thoroughbred racehorses worldwide.

This is a rare opportunity for a respected academic, veterinarian, or research leader to influence the global equine industry by overseeing one of the world's leading equine welfare research funding organizations. The role combines scientific leadership, stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, and international collaboration to deliver meaningful improvements in horse welfare and veterinary science.

About the Role

As Executive Manager, you will lead the Foundation's operations, research strategy, and international partnerships while ensuring the highest standards of governance and scientific excellence.

You will work closely with leading universities, researchers, veterinary experts, and international racing organizations to identify priority research areas, evaluate funding opportunities, and translate scientific discoveries into practical benefits for horses worldwide.

Reporting to senior leadership, you will also serve as a trusted advisor to the Foundation's Board, providing strategic insights and communicating complex scientific issues in a clear and compelling manner.

This is a full time position based in Hong Kong.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Lead the overall direction and management of the Foundation
• Develop and implement strategies that maximize the impact of research investments
• Identify emerging scientific opportunities and drive innovative initiatives
• Build long-term partnerships with leading global stakeholders

Research & Scientific Excellence

• Oversee competitive research grant programs and funding cycles
• Evaluate scientific proposals and research outcomes
• Support funded researchers through active engagement and technical guidance
• Ensure funded projects align with the Foundation's mission and priorities

Governance & Board Engagement

• Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory, ethical, and governance requirements
• Prepare high-quality board papers, reports, and recommendations
• Present funding proposals, budgets, and scientific outcomes to the Board

International Collaboration

• Collaborate with universities, research institutions, industry bodies, and scientific thought leaders worldwide
• Represent the Foundation at international conferences and industry events
• Help maximize the global impact and adoption of research findings

Knowledge Translation & Stakeholder Impact

• Promote the practical application of scientific research within the equine industry
• Develop initiatives that improve knowledge sharing and education
• Enhance the Foundation's profile as a global leader in equine welfare research

About You

You are an accomplished scientific or veterinary professional with strong leadership credentials and a passion for advancing animal welfare through research and innovation.

Essential Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline
• At least five years of relevant leadership experience
• Strong academic and research background with a track record of scientific achievement
• Experience working within complex organizations and managing multiple stakeholders
• Ability to evaluate scientific research and communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences
• Outstanding relationship-building and influencing skills
