You’ll lead the Commodities, Trade and Transition Business Controls Advisory function, guiding the embedment of operational risk frameworks including continuous monitoring and reporting of risks. This means navigating competing priorities, balancing regulatory expectations with commercial outcomes, and ensuring leaders stay focused on what matters most. You’ll bring clarity to ambiguity, drive consistency in approach, and act as a trusted voice at the table, lifting capability while holding stakeholders to account in a constructive and influential way.

This is a permanent Sydney based role, with three days in the office to connect with the wider team.

What do I need?

  • Proven experience in Operational Risk management through 1LOD or 2LOD roles in an institutional banking environment.
  • Deep understanding of Operational Risk frameworks, concepts and best practices with the ability to identify control gaps/weaknesses, perform systemic assessments of issues and incidents, support risk mitigation activities and perform Root Cause Analysis.
  • Strong understanding of Financial Markets ideally, with knowledge of Commodities, Carbon and Energy trading products and the day-to-day operational risks and challenges in fast paced trading environments
  • Confident, quick decision-maker who can cut through complexity and respond in real time with proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating autonomously while managing multiple priorities and stakeholder demands.
  • Experience in investment banking or similar environments, with a natural fit for high-performing financial markets BCM teams.
