JOB SUMMARY
The Executive Housekeeper is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and day-to-day management of the Housekeeping department, including guestrooms, public areas, laundry, recreation areas, and other assigned operational spaces.
The role ensures consistently high standards of cleanliness, presentation, hygiene, and maintenance across the property in accordance with brand and resort standards. As part of an island-based operation, the Executive Housekeeper is also responsible for effective workforce planning, inventory and supply management, cost control, and close coordination with other departments to ensure uninterrupted operations.
The Executive Housekeeper plays a key role in delivering exceptional guest experiences, developing and engaging the Housekeeping team, protecting hotel assets, and driving operational and financial performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Operational Leadership & Housekeeping Management
- Lead and oversee daily Housekeeping operations across guestrooms, public areas, laundry, recreation facilities, and other assigned areas.
- Ensure all areas consistently meet established cleanliness, presentation, hygiene, and brand standards.
- Establish and monitor cleaning schedules, room assignments, productivity standards, and quality inspection processes.
- Maintain effective communication with Front Office regarding room status, priority rooms, arrivals, departures, and special guest requirements.
- Work closely with Engineering to identify maintenance requirements and ensure timely resolution of defects and preventive maintenance issues.
- Ensure appropriate equipment, supplies, linen, chemicals, and resources are available to support efficient daily operations.
II. Guest Experience & Service Excellence
- Maintain the highest standards of guestroom and public-area cleanliness, presentation, and comfort.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest feedback and Housekeeping-related concerns, ensuring appropriate service recovery.
- Anticipate guest needs and work closely with Front Office, Food & Beverage, Engineering, and other departments to provide a seamless resort experience.
- Promote a culture of attention to detail, personalised service, and warm, authentic Fijian hospitality.
- Regularly review guest feedback and cleanliness scores and implement improvements where required.
III. Financial Management & Cost Control
- Prepare, manage, and monitor the Housekeeping departmental budget, including operating expenses and capital requirements.
- Monitor linen, guest supplies, cleaning chemicals, uniforms, equipment, and other departmental expenses to achieve effective cost control.
- Establish and maintain appropriate par levels and inventory controls to minimise shortages, wastage, loss, and shrinkage.
- Forecast staffing and operational requirements based on occupancy, business levels, and resort activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity and reduce costs without compromising guest experience or quality standards.
IV. Island Operations & Inventory Management
- Maintain effective inventory and stock-management processes, taking into consideration supplier lead times and the logistical requirements of an island-based resort.
- Coordinate with Procurement and relevant departments to ensure adequate availability of linen, chemicals, amenities, uniforms, equipment, and operational supplies.
- Proactively plan for seasonal demand, high occupancy periods, weather disruptions, and potential supply delays.
- Ensure appropriate storage, handling, rotation, and security of Housekeeping supplies and equipment.
- Work closely with Engineering and Procurement on equipment replacement, repairs, and long-term asset planning.
V. Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing Housekeeping team.
- Ensure effective onboarding and departmental training covering brand standards, cleaning procedures, equipment use, safety, and guest service.
- Establish clear performance expectations, productivity standards, and accountability across the department.
- Provide regular coaching, feedback, recognition, and performance reviews.
- Develop supervisors and emerging leaders through succession planning and career development.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful working environment that reflects the resort's service culture and Fijian hospitality values.
VI. Workforce Planning & Employee Engagement
- Develop and maintain appropriate staffing structures and rosters according to occupancy, business demands, and operational requirements.
- Partner with Human Resources on recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, retention, and development.
- Monitor attendance, productivity, leave planning, overtime, and workforce utilisation.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, employment requirements, and applicable labour regulations.
- Promote employee engagement and wellbeing within the department.
VII. Health, Safety, Hygiene & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety, hygiene, sanitation, and chemical-handling requirements.
- Maintain appropriate procedures for the safe use and storage of chemicals, machinery, and Housekeeping equipment.
- Conduct regular departmental safety checks, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with brand standards, regulatory requirements, environmental practices, and company policies.
- Maintain departmental readiness for internal and external audits and brand inspections.
- Promote environmentally responsible practices, including responsible chemical, water, energy, linen, and waste management.
VIII. Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of guestrooms, public areas, laundry, and back-of-house areas.
- Monitor key Housekeeping performance indicators, including room cleanliness, guest satisfaction, productivity, linen usage, inventory, and departmental costs.
- Analyse recurring operational or guest-service issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Continuously review Housekeeping procedures to improve efficiency, quality, and guest satisfaction.
- Partner with Engineering and other departments on refurbishment, deep-cleaning, preventive maintenance, and asset-preservation programmes.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma or Degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 4–6 years of progressive experience in Housekeeping operations, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or leadership role within a hotel or resort environment.
- Strong understanding of housekeeping standards, cleaning procedures, sanitation, and quality assurance practices aligned with international hotel brands.
- Proven experience in managing large teams, including room attendants, public area attendants, and laundry staff.
- Demonstrated ability in budget management, cost control, inventory management, and forecasting within housekeeping operations.
- Familiarity with hotel systems (e.g., Opera or similar PMS) and housekeeping coordination processes with Front Office and Engineering teams.
- Sound knowledge of Workplace Health & Safety standards, hygiene regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to Fiji hospitality operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to train, motivate, and develop team members.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, in a fast-paced resort environment.
- Local knowledge of the Fiji market and culture, with the ability to deliver warm, authentic Fijian hospitality experiences.
