
General Summary
Under the primary supervision of the Chancellor’s Office Chief of Staff, the Executive Driver and Special Assistant serves in an important and impactful support role within the Office of the Chancellor. As the primary driver for, and personal aide to, the Chancellor, this position is a highly unique and visible role that offers direct access and close proximity to the Chancellor and other members of the UMass Chan Medical School senior leadership team. The Executive Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and discreet transportation for the Chancellor and others as needed as guests of the Chancellor or otherwise. The role also functions as an assistant in support of any additional requests or responsibilities as assigned.
Responsibilites
•Serves as the Chancellor’s primary driver•Ensures all transportation needs are met with efficiency, courtesy, and attention to detail by safely transporting the Chancellor to and from business meetings, airports, events, and other destinations while maintaining punctuality and adherence to traffic laws.•Maintain strict confidentiality regarding executive conversations, schedules, and personal information.•Accompanies the Chancellor, as needed, to internal and external engagements and events and serves as a primary point of contact for event and meeting organizers; Advances the Chancellor’s weekly schedule of events, meetings and other commitments by engaging directly with event and meeting organizers to understand the nature, purpose, program and logistical details of said engagement and the Chancellor’s involvement therein•Demonstrates reliability, courtesy, and polished conduct.•Provide high‑level service including greeting passengers, assisting with luggage, opening doors, and ensuring comfort throughout the trip.•Plan optimal routes using GPS and local knowledge; adjust routes in real time to avoid delays, traffic, or hazardous conditions.•Maintains alertness and awareness of surroundings.•Conduct daily vehicle inspections, schedule routine maintenance, and ensure the vehicle remains clean, fueled, and in excellent working condition.•Coordinate daily travel schedules, respond to last‑minute changes, and maintain flexibility for extended hours or unexpected assignments. Manages schedules efficiently and anticipates delays.•Monitor road and weather conditions, follow safety protocols, and respond appropriately to minor vehicle or travel-related emergencies.•Maintain accurate logs, mileage reports, inspection forms, and any required transportation documentation.•Leads special projects as assigned in support of the Chancellor’s Office , including planning, coordinating, and seeing initiatives through to completion in partnership with the Chief of Staff.•When not engaged in executive driving duties, the Executive Driver provides assistance to the Chancellor’s Office as assigned, including operational support, situational monitoring, and other tasks aligned with departmental needs.
Qualifications
•Exceptional driving skills•A high level of professionalism•Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment•Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and extended hours•Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record•Ability to respond effectively to unexpected changes or challenges•Minimum of 3–5 years of professional driving or chauffeur experience•Strong knowledge of local and regional roadways•Excellent communication and customer service skills•Professional appearance and demeanor•Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and assist with luggage as needed•Demonstrated ability to lead or coordinate projects
Work Environment:
This role involves frequent driving, variable hours, and occasional long-distance travel. The Executive Driver must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high‑expectation environment supporting senior leadership.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle and stand or walk for prolonged periods as required by job duties.
Ability to lift and carry luggage or equipment up to 50 lbs.
Ability to enter and exit vehicles safely and assist passengers as needed.
