WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The Executive Director, Texas Acceleration Network (TAN) will lead the implementation and management of a high-priority Texas Education Agency (TEA) initiative designed to accelerate and scale excellent leadership in turnaround districts across the state. TAN supports superintendents-in-waiting and their paired conservators to be day-one ready to execute a replicable, systemic turnaround playbook—customized for local context while grounded in best-in-class state frameworks.

This role is responsible for driving TAN’s strategy, coordinating and cohering work across multiple interdependent workstreams, managing technical assistance providers, and directly engaging with district leaders and TEA senior leadership. The Executive Director plays a critical role in codifying Texas’s approach to district turnaround and strengthening the state’s capacity to support LEAs at scale.

This position reports to the Associate Commissioner of District Planning and Supports.

Develop and Continuously Improve the TAN Playbook

Lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of an EDF-aligned Texas Acceleration Network Playbook that equips districts with the systems, tools, and approaches necessary for successful turnaround.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage technical assistance firms and contracted experts to develop and refine the TAN Playbook aligned to Effective District Framework (EDF), AIM, and earned autonomy.
  • Ensure playbook components address:
    • Leadership Planning & Performance Management
    • Talent Systems
    • Integrated Student Support Systems
    • Student Academic Experience
    • Instructional Capacity Building Systems
    • Finance & Operations Systems
  • Coordinate review, feedback, and approval processes across TEA leadership and internal nodes.
  • Synthesize field-based learning and user feedback to continuously strengthen and scale the playbook.

Metrics for Success include:

  • On-time delivery and approval of TAN Playbook artifacts
  • Strong alignment across EDF, AIM, and earned autonomy frameworks
  • Clear feedback loops that drive continuous improvement and scalable use

Manage Action Planning and Launch Execution Supports

Oversee Action Planning and Launch Execution supports for superintendents-in-waiting and conservator pairs preparing for placement in TAN-supported districts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage technical assistance providers supporting:
    • Landscape data analysis
    • Action planning aligned to the TAN Playbook
    • Pre-launch and launch execution supports
  • Ensure superintendents are day-one ready, including cabinet recruitment, vendor coordination, and execution planning.
  • Oversee first-year implementation supports and planning for year two of placement.
  • Curate and manage aligned professional development (e.g., HQIM, observation/feedback, AIM-aligned PD).

Metrics for Success include:

  • Action plans completed on time and aligned to TAN expectations
  • High-quality, coherent PD delivered with fidelity
  • Strong launch execution support through year one
  • Actionable feedback loops informing continuous improvement
  • Insights shared with related TEA initiatives (e.g., Leadership Academy, LIFT, SGS, ESF/EDF)

Facilitate Superintendent Network and Progress Monitoring

Lead a quarterly continuous improvement network for superintendents serving intervention placement districts, with a focus on information sharing, problem-solving, and performance management.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and facilitate quarterly network sessions based on superintendent and conservator needs.
  • Support district leadership teams in conducting effective performance management routines using student and implementation data.
  • Partner with conservators to synthesize progress and key action steps for TEA senior leadership.
  • Manage logistics, communications, facilitation plans, and post-session feedback.

Metrics for Success include:

  • High-quality, needs-driven network sessions
  • Strong superintendent engagement and collaboration
  • Clear synthesis of data and insights for agency leadership
  • Continuous improvement informed by participant feedback

Lead Project Management and Cross-Node Coordination

Provide end-to-end project management across all TAN workstreams, ensuring alignment, clarity, and on-time execution.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and manage a master project plan incorporating milestones across all TAN nodes.
  • Conduct weekly or bi-weekly check-ins with individual nodes and cross-node alignment meetings.
  • Proactively identify risks, resolve issues, and drive mitigation strategies.
  • Lead communications, documentation, reporting, and knowledge sharing across stakeholders.

Metrics for Success include:

  • Up-to-date, aligned project plans across all nodes
  • On-time milestone delivery
  • Clear communication and accountability across stakeholders
  • Effective reporting to TEA leadership

Team Management

Directly manage and develop one Project Manager, ensuring clarity of roles, priorities, and performance expectations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Hire and onboard the Project Manager.
  • Establish effective check-in, delegation, and performance management routines.
  • Use data and reflection to guide coaching and continuous improvement.

Metrics for Success include:

  • Successful onboarding and integration of the Project Manager
  • High-quality, on-time delivery of assigned workstreams
  • Clear, supportive, and effective management structures

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Significant experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder education initiatives
  • Demonstrated expertise in district or school turnaround, systems redesign, or large-scale education reform
  • Strong project management and organizational leadership skills
  • Experience managing vendors or technical assistance providers
  • Ability to engage senior leaders, including superintendents, conservators, and state agency leadership
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and synthesis skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Experience working with or within a state education agency
  • Deep familiarity with Texas education accountability, intervention, or turnaround systems
  • Experience leading continuous improvement networks or leadership pipelines
