The Executive Director of Sales is responsible for leading the development and implementation of convention sales. This position is responsible for effectively meeting all of the sales goals within the Reno Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority and providing leadership in the development and implementation of long and short term plans, programs and goals. This position is also responsible for interfacing with the appropriate representatives of the “stakeholder” property owners and ensuring that the RSCVA’s sales goals are coordinated with their requirements.  The Executive Director of Sales is responsible for developing and administering the Department’s budget to include reallocating resources as needed and serving as an active participant in the executive team.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates knowledge of principles and techniques related to hospitality, convention and meeting sales.
- Demonstrates expertise in field and has resources for problem solving.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the Reno, Sparks, and North Lake Tahoe area and the capabilities of the Reno Sparks Convention & Visitor's Authority facilities.
- Demonstrates knowledge of department’s financial impact on RSCVA bottom line.
- Prepares monthly reports and assists CEO in analyzing variances and possible interventions as appropriate.
- Understands and incorporates RSCVA’s strategic plan into department’s operational plan and goals, and assures that staff members are aligned with the strategic plan
- Effectively communicates to staff, including peers and supervisor regarding departmental operations and accepted processes and procedures.
- Effectively communicates to stakeholders regarding goals and objectives.
- Effectively solicits and sells the Reno, Sparks, and North Lake Tahoe area as a convention/groups and sports destination.
- Maintains a positive and professional image and builds an effective rapport with clients or prospective clients and stakeholders.
- Develops and maintains an accurate, up to date, and comprehensive knowledge of the attractions and capabilities of the Reno Sparks Convention & Visitor's Authority facilities, local attractions and points of interest, and local hotel properties, and is able to effectively utilize this knowledge as a sales tool.
- Lead and inspire diverse, cross functional sales teams by setting a clear vision, fostering accountability, and creating an inclusive environment where individuals feel valued and motivated to perform at their best.
- Cultivate a positive, collaborative workplace culture by modeling emotional intelligence, encouraging open communication, and reinforcing behaviors that support trust, respect, and shared success.
- Serve as a visible, accessible leader who builds rapport across all levels of the organization
- Conducts site inspections for meeting planners, airline representatives, editors of trade publications, coordinating the inspection with sales personnel of hotels, and other partners and stakeholders.
- Develops and maintains an accurate, up to date, and comprehensive knowledge of client or prospective client needs and interests by researching sales files, contacts with other sales departments and review of sales and tourism trade literature.
- Makes effective verbal presentations and presents the positive features and advantages of the Reno, Sparks, and North Lake Tahoe area as a convention and tourism destination clearly and convincingly.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of long and short term strategic plans, programs and goals for Convention Sales.
- Maintains a competent and motivated workforce by hiring, training, developing, disciplining and evaluating the performance of subordinates.  Provides timely and appropriate feedback to staff on performance and work issues.
- Manages the Convention Sales department to achieve goals within available resources; plans and organizes workload and staff assignments.
- Exercises control over the authorized budget to keep expenditures within limits set.  Actively develops new business opportunities that will increase the ROI on departments’ expenditures.
- Interprets research provided by outside vendors on visitor profile and visitor attitudes and uses this information to direct and adjust strategy.
- Prepares and delivers reporting for the Board of Directors.
- Demonstrates ability to work with stakeholders with tact and diplomacy; and has exceptional presentation, writing and verbal skills.
- Actively participates in formal department/RSCVA planning activities.
- Serves as a consultant to other departments as needed.
- Participates in professional community organizations as is appropriate.
- Works closely with the RSCVA Marketing department to formulate marketing and sales initiatives for convention sales, sports and tourism
- Understands and develops tracking and ROI metrics that enable successful sales strategies.
- Develops and administers the Convention Sales department budgets to include reallocating resources as needed; and implements cost effective improvements in the budget or departmental operations.
- Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsJOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Development, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Must have at least Seven (7) years’ experience in Convention Sales, Public Relations or Tourism/Hospitality.
- Must have at least Five (5) years managerial experience preferably in the area of hospitality or tourism.
- Proven track record of driving revenue growth through strategic planning, market expansion, and high performance team leadership.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust, influence stakeholders, and foster positive relationships across the organization.
- Experience leading cross functional initiatives and partnering effectively with marketing, operations, finance, and HR to align business strategies.
- Strategic thinker with strong business acumen, capable of analyzing market trends, identifying opportunities, and making data driven decisions.
- Ability to represent the organization with professionalism and credibility, both internally and externally, including with clients, partners, and executive leadership.
- Experience leading cross functional initiatives and partnering effectively with marketing, operations, finance, and HR to align business strategies.
- Proficient in MS office.
- Ability to communicate proficiently in English both verbally and in writing.
WORKING CONDITIONS / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- May work near moving mechanical parts.
- May be exposed to various temperatures inside the building and outside the building, airborne particles, and fumes.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet while in the office, or moderately noisy when in the field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sit, Stand, walk, squat, bend (at neck and waist), twist, reach above & below shoulder level as needed during the shift.
- Simple grasping as well as repetitive use of hands and fine hand manipulation are needed to accomplish essential functions.
- Frequently required to talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Lift up to 15 lbs. on an occasional basis.

The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority, RSCVA, was established in 1959 as the Washoe County Fair and Recreation Board. The RSCVA acts as a marketing organization for the county to promote convention and tourism business.

Unlike other convention and visitor bureaus across the country, the RSCVA owns and operates several facilities designed to draw out-of-town visitors.
