Job Description
The Executive Director of Learning and Innovation provides district-wide leadership for the planning, implementation, communication, and continuous improvement of strategic instructional initiatives aligned with Strategic Vision 2037.
Reporting to the Deputy Superintendent, the Executive Director works across departments and schools to translate district priorities into actionable plans with clear outcomes, responsibilities, timelines, measures of success, and systems for progress monitoring.
The Executive Director partners with district and school leaders to strengthen instructional coherence; support effective implementation of curriculum, professional learning, and technology; advance secondary achievement and student pathways; and ensure district initiatives collectively prepare students for graduation and postsecondary success.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Implementation and Continuous Improvement
- Lead project management for major district instructional and strategic initiatives, establishing clear goals, timelines, responsibilities, deliverables, and measures of success.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure effective implementation and communication across departments and schools.
- Facilitate continuous-improvement cycles, including Plan-Do-Study-Act, to monitor implementation, evaluate impact, address barriers, and refine strategies.
- Develop progress-monitoring tools and communication structures that promote transparency, accountability, and informed decision making.
- Instructional Coherence
- Partner with district directors to support effective implementation and communication of K-12 curriculum.
- Support alignment of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and learning experiences with the Portrait of a Graduate and NY Inspires.
- Coordinate implementation of district expectations for a High-Quality Instructional Core, GLEAM, and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
- Use student outcomes, implementation data, instructional rounds, and stakeholder feedback to identify priorities for instructional improvement.
- Strengthen coherence among curriculum, instruction, assessment, intervention, enrichment, and professional learning.
- Professional Learning
- Collaborate with directors and school leaders to strengthen district systems for instructional coaching and job-embedded professional learning.
- Support effective coaching cycles and use evidence of implementation and student outcomes to evaluate impact and determine professional learning priorities.
- Coordinate with curriculum and technology leaders to ensure instructional technology and technology coaching support high-quality teaching and learning.
- Build leadership and educator capacity to implement district instructional priorities effectively.
- Secondary Achievement, CTE, and Student Pathways
- Coordinate improvement efforts focused on secondary academic achievement, engagement, course success, credit attainment, graduation, and postsecondary readiness.
- Support implementation and expansion of CTE, dual enrollment, advanced coursework, work-based learning, career exploration, and industry-recognized credentials.
- Collaborate with school leaders and counselors to strengthen personalized student pathways and systems for early identification and support of students experiencing academic difficulty.
- Expand partnerships with higher education, business, industry, workforce development agencies, and community organizations.
- Monitor student access, participation, and outcomes related to graduation, CTE, credentials, postsecondary enrollment, and workforce readiness.
- Innovation and Future-Ready Learning
- Lead the development, implementation, evaluation, and scaling of innovative educational models aligned with district priorities.
- Advance the Portrait of a Graduate and NY Inspires through interdisciplinary, competency-based, career-connected, and authentic learning experiences.
- Establish processes for piloting and evaluating innovations based on student needs, evidence of effectiveness, and alignment with district instructional systems.
- Identify partnerships, grants, and external resources that advance Strategic Vision 2037.

- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful candidates should demonstrate significant administrative or supervisory experience with a strong background in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and organizational improvement. Candidates should have experience leading complex initiatives and organizational change, supervising and evaluating staff, and applying strategic planning, continuous improvement, project management, and data-informed decision-making practices. Strong knowledge of high-quality instruction, MTSS, professional learning, New York State learning standards, graduation requirements, the Portrait of a Graduate, and NY Inspires is expected. Experience with secondary academic improvement, CTE, college and career readiness, student pathways, instructional technology, or postsecondary partnerships is preferred. Candidates should possess strong collaborative, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills. A master's degree and valid New York State administrative certification (SDL or SDA) are required. Individuals from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
