Job Description

The Enoch Pratt Free Library has an opening for an experienced advancement professional to serve as Executive Director of Institutional Advancement.

As a member of the library’s senior leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO, this individual will lead fundraising strategy and donor engagement efforts related to annual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, grants, donor stewardship, fundraising events, and future capital and endowment campaigns. The Director will oversee an advancement team that supports the library’s mission, long-term sustainability, and strategic priorities.

Note: This position will require evening and weekend hours as needed

Salary: $200,000–$230,000 per year

of Duties

Strategic Advancement & Fundraising Leadership

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive institutional advancement strategy aligned with the library’s mission, strategic plan, and long-term fundraising goals.

  • Collaborates with library leadership team to develop compelling cases for support tied to strategic initiatives, public services, educational programs, and capital priorities.

  • Identifies, cultivates, and makes appeals for support from corporations, foundations, philanthropic organizations, and other institutional partners in support of Pratt’s strategic priorities, programs, and capital initiatives.

  • Leads fundraising efforts related to annual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, foundation support, planned giving, endowment growth, and future capital campaigns.

  • Manages a portfolio of major donors, corporate partners, foundations, and philanthropic prospects and leads stewardship efforts to strengthen and expand those relationships.

  • Identifies opportunities to expand philanthropic support amongst foundations, corporations, and community stakeholders.

Donor Engagement & Fundraising Events

  • Works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors and Trustees to advance fundraising priorities, philanthropic strategy, and donor engagement efforts.

  • Partners with the Board of Directors and Trustees to identify fundraising opportunities and cultivate relationships with major donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and institutional partners.

  • Manages a portfolio of major donors, corporate partners, and philanthropic prospects, overseeing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to strengthen long-term support for the library.

  • Provides strategic oversight and leadership for donor cultivation events, fundraising initiatives, and high-profile public engagement opportunities.

  • Provides leadership, guidance, and strategic support in the management and growth of donor affinity groups, membership organizations, and donor engagement initiatives.

  • Represents the Library at donor meetings, community engagements, and partnership development opportunities.

Department Leadership & Operations

  • Oversees advancement operations, including fundraising reporting, donor stewardship systems, contributed income tracking, and gift compliance procedures.

  • Supervises and supports advancement staff, including the Individual and Corporate Giving Manager and New Initiatives and Grants Manager.

  • Develops departmental goals, establish performance expectations, and support staff’s professional development and growth.

  • Monitors fundraising performance and donor engagement metrics and provide reports and analyses to executive leadership.

  • Collaborates with the Business Office and other departments to ensure appropriate financial controls, reporting standards, and procedures.

  • Supports Board committees related to fundraising and advancement efforts as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Seven years of experience in fundraising, institutional advancement, non-profit management, and/or related work.

  • Five years of supervisory or leadership experience.

  • Experience managing major donor relationships, fundraising initiatives, and advancement strategies.

  • Experience with fundraising and donor management systems.

  • Experience with strategic planning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading advancement efforts for a non-profit, cultural institution, university, library system, or similarly complex organization.

  • Experience with major gifts, capital campaigns, planned giving, and corporate sponsorship development.

  • Experience working directly with boards, trustees, donors, foundations, or corporate partners.

  • Experience managing fundraising events, donor engagement initiatives, and advancement operations.

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT.

  • Current experience in local, regional, and/or national fundraising and non-profit professional organizations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Commitment to and passion for the mission of the Enoch Pratt Free Library.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership and library departments to identify fundraising opportunities and develop revenue goals.

  • Strong knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and institutional advancement principles and practices.

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, board members, elected officials, and community leaders.

  • Ability to think strategically, manage multiple priorities, and implement long-term fundraising initiatives.

  • Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to analyze fundraising data and make informed, strategic recommendations.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential matters.

  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and strategic planning skills.
