Job Description

The Executive Director of Business Strategy & Operations - Pharmaceutical Sciences (PharmSci) will be responsible for working with the PharmSci leadership team to develop and implement the organization’s strategic and operational plans. The role will be responsible for establishing framework and action plan for operational/work process excellence initiatives, capital and line budget financial management, statistics and analytics around key metrics, internal and external communications, training, and cross functional strategic projects.

The role will be a key member of the PharmSci leadership team and will be responsible for facilitating PharmSci LT meetings, driving timely and crisp, objective decision-making on portfolio, technology and resourcing topics.

This colleague will report to the Heads of PharmSci and works closely with leaders and peers across PharmSci, Pre-Clinical and Translational Sciences (P&TS), Pfizer Global Supply (PGS), Global Work Solutions (GWS), and Finance. The individual will have strong strategic, operational, and communications acumen to help ensure PharmSci is a best-in-class operation, trusted partner, and excellent place to work.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for developing the strategy and goals for Pharmaceutical Sciences, ensuring a clear alignment with the P&TS and R&D strategies and objectives
  • Accountable for key strategic pieces of work for PharmSci, including the annual Operating Plan
  • Lead financial forecasting and monitoring for PharmSci to ensure lines meet yearly budget target. Devise and implement new cutting-edge systems to increase forecasting accuracy and business value. Strong and trusting partnership with finance is essential
  • Partner closely with the Portfolio and Project Management groups in PharmSci to provide business analysis and strategic input to portfolio advancement.
  • Responsible for identifying and driving strategic priorities and business improvement opportunities within PharmSci including both one-time and continuous improvement initiatives and ensuring that discreet deliverables are well characterized with associated timing, resources, quality parameters, and interdependencies across lines.
  • Partner closely with Ops leads within the PharmSci lines to ensure consistency and continuous learning across PharmSci
  • Ensure a robust and comprehensive facilities master plan (laboratory, offices, manufacturing) across PharmSci network. Strong partnership with GWS is essential.
  • Lead a continuous external benchmarking effort to evaluate how PharmSci is performing relative to peer large Biotech organizations as well as other technology companies. Recommend solutions to improve PharmSci performance
  • Develop agendas for leadership team meetings that optimize and focus time on the highest priority areas and tracks actions and follow-through.
  • Facilitator and coach.
  • Build effective teams and develop leaders across organizations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in scientific discipline required. MBA (or training in finance/business analytics) preferred, MS/PhD a plus.
  • 12+ years of experience in or supporting the biopharmaceutical industry. Working knowledge of biologics vaccines, and small molecules development preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing, managing and delivering strategies and operational efficiencies in a large complex organization
  • Experience in resource and budget management including demand forecasting, capacity and headcount management
  • In-depth understanding of pharma R&D strategy and PharmSci strategy, processes and operations, with proven track record of successful strategy development and implementation.

  • Ability to navigate global organization and create alignment & network of colleagues across levels.
  • Ability to lead complex matrixed teams and experience in working with/presenting to senior leaders
  • Ability to motivate others to maintain a high and consistent level of excellence in strategy development, project management and outcomes.
  • Partner with the P&PM group to evaluate capacity planning to meet the portfolio demand with sufficient resources.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel between Pfizer sites, including Andover / Cambridge, MA, St Louis, MO, Groton, CT, Bothell, WA

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $254,100.00 to $423,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 25.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
