Job Description

Greater Philadelphia YMCA Employment Opportunity!

Executive Director

Media, PA | Full Time, Salary | $80,000 - $100,000

We believe that great people build great communities.

We are looking for an Executive Leader to provide the vision, leadership, and accountability behind the success of one of our YMCA branches. This is a highly visible leadership role with responsibility for the overall performance of the branch, including financial results, member experience, team member experience, membership growth and engagement, community partnerships, fundraising, and day-to-day operations.

You'll lead a large, diverse team while coaching and developing the department leaders responsible for delivering the Y experience every day. Just as importantly, you'll serve as an ambassador for the YMCA in the community—building relationships with members, volunteers, community leaders, and partners and connecting them to our mission. If you're a proven operational leader who knows how to develop people, drive business performance, and build meaningful community relationships, we'd love to meet you.

Some rewards for joining our team:

  • Free YMCA membership—access to all branches!
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Sweet discounts on child care and summer camp programs
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, and Life Insurances
  • Generous Paid Time Off + 7 paid holidays throughout the year
  • Planning for your future? Ask us how we do it at the Y—it's awesome!
  • Supplemental insurance benefits

What is needed for this job as our Executive Leader:

  • Master's degree preferred; bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience required
  • Five or more years of leadership experience in fitness, retail, recreation management, hospitality, or a related service-focused industry
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading and developing large teams
  • Five or more years of experience managing profit and loss (P&L) statements, revenue, expenses, and EBITDA budgets
  • Demonstrated success leading in a performance-driven environment and achieving financial and operational goals
  • Experience delivering a high-quality member or customer experience and effectively resolving concerns
  • Strong ability to coach, develop, motivate, and hold leaders accountable for performance
  • Excellent interviewing and talent-selection skills
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds

The responsibilities we will trust you with as our Executive Leader:

  • Lead the overall direction, performance, operations, and success of the branch while ensuring alignment with the YMCA's mission and organizational priorities
  • Drive strong financial performance by managing budgets, forecasting revenue and expenses, controlling costs, and holding department leaders accountable for results
  • Lead, coach, and develop department leaders while building an engaged, high-performing team
  • Create an exceptional member experience by monitoring feedback, evaluating performance, resolving concerns, and ensuring high standards throughout the branch
  • Build a strong team member experience through regular coaching, performance management, recognition, professional development, and clear accountability
  • Cultivate an engaged advisory board and build relationships with members, volunteers, donors, and community leaders that strengthen the YMCA's mission and community presence
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies that build volunteer and community support and advance the branch's financial development goals
  • Build collaborative relationships with community partners, schools, parent organizations, vendors, and YMCA leaders throughout the Association
  • Provide leadership for branch staffing decisions, including hiring, promotions, employee status changes, performance management, and separations
  • Maintain high standards for branch operations, cleanliness, safety, and child protection, with zero tolerance for non-compliance
  • Use member feedback, financial results, key performance indicators, and other operational data to identify opportunities and improve branch performance
  • Remain visible and engaged throughout the branch, stepping into direct service and operational needs when circumstances require additional leadership support

What you can expect:

  • Significant responsibility for the performance and direction of a large, complex YMCA branch
  • The opportunity to lead and develop a large team and the leaders who support them
  • Ownership of meaningful financial, operational, membership, fundraising, and community-impact goals
  • A highly visible leadership role with the opportunity to build relationships and represent the YMCA throughout the community
  • A collaborative partnership with senior YMCA leadership and teams across the Association
  • Meaningful work leading a branch that connects people to healthier lives and strengthens the community it serves
