Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
As Executive Advisor – Customer and Services, you’ll provide high‑quality, trusted strategic advice and operational support to the Chief Customer and Services Officer. This is a pivotal role that sits at the centre of executive decision‑making, enabling effective leadership, strong delivery, and a positive, engaged workplace culture.
You’ll work across the organisation to connect people, guide strategic priorities, and support system‑wide initiatives that strengthen customer experience and service delivery. The role requires sound judgement, political and organisational awareness, and the ability to operate confidently in complex and fast‑moving environments.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing strategic leadership, insight, and advice across the Customer and Services group and NZTA more broadly
Supporting the delivery of the customer strategy and organisational priorities and plans
Preparing and coordinating executive and Board‑level material, including papers, briefings, forward planning, and committee inputs
Identifying, assessing, and proactively managing risks and issues
Supporting strategy development, major initiatives, and change delivery
Working closely with Communications to support internal and executive communications and engagement
Supporting budgeting and forecasting processes and overseeing fit‑for‑purpose group financial planning
Championing tikanga Māori, Te Reo Māori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi responsibilities
Modelling NZTA values and supporting an inclusive, high‑performing workplace culture

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Experience turning strategy into practical, deliverable outcomes within a large, complex organisation
Strong influencing skills and the ability to build credibility with senior leaders and diverse stakeholders
Excellent analytical capability, sound judgement, and the ability to identify and manage risk
Experience working across people functions, organisational systems, or government environments (central or local government experience desirable)
Exceptional written communication and presentation skills, including preparation of executive and Board‑level papers
Strong organisational skills, pragmatism, and comfort working in ambiguity and pace
A proactive, self‑starting approach with the ability to “work in the grey”
You will also demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to develop, understanding of Te Ao Māori, promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori, and grow your understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as it applies in the public sector.

Our work spans both established and emerging functions, including licensing, emissions‑related incentive schemes, national ticketing, and safety camera systems. We work collaboratively across Waka Kotahi to continuously improve customer experience and strengthen system stewardship.
