Job Description

Goodwill Industries of Kentucky is hiring a Teacher to support an unprecedented educational initiative that will address critical workforce challenges in the state’s largest city. Teachers hold primary responsibility for the implementation and development of The Excel Center curriculum and the success of its students. This role must be committed to continuously improving curriculum and instruction through collaboration as part of a team. The teacher role will facilitate learning for students attending Excel Center, meeting students “where they are”. The school – better known as an Excel Center – provides a tuition free opportunity for Kentuckians, 18 years of age and older, who have dropped out of high school to earn a diploma in a unique environment that caters to the life demands they now face as adults. To help its adult students succeed in earning their diplomas, the Excel Center features: flexible 8-week class schedules, free on-site childcare, transportation assistance, industry-recognized certification options, and career coaches who help graduates transition into college or meaningful careers.

Job Type: Full-time, Exempt

Pay: $47,500+

Essential Duties and Tasks:

  • Implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards; Build lessons around student needs including online learning tools and content.
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards; Be accountable for student mastery of Kentucky Academic State Standards.
  • Track and analyze classroom data; Use attendance and assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices to achieve learning goals.
  • Focus constantly on student learning; Think critically and strategically to respond to specific student learning needs across ability levels.
  • Participate in collaborative curriculum development, activities, and school-wide functions aimed at improving student retention, productivity, school culture, and new student orientation.
  • Work with coaches and leadership staff to support students’ progress towards graduation and post-secondary planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in subject specialty.
  • A minimum of two (2) years teaching experience post-licensing, preferred.
  • Current Kentucky Teaching certificate in subject specialty required. Candidates who are able to obtain a Kentucky Teaching certificate in a designated period of time will be considered.
  • Experience working with high school age students in urban, non-traditional, and/or in adult education setting highly preferred.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish, highly preferred.
  • Must have proficient verbal and written skills appropriate for a professional environment, ability to communicate direct feedback in a compelling way that empowers teachers to make immediate improvements to instruction.
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards; Be accountable for student mastery of Kentucky Academic State Standards.

Physical Demands:

  • This job may have physical requirements that are considered sedentary work. Sedentary work involves sitting for long periods of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing, and visual acuity and occasional lifting to 15 pounds.
  • Travel to other locations beyond the assigned work location is occasionally required.
