Position Summary
Our events at Morehouse College are a vital tool in celebrating and communicating the magic and mystique of Morehouse. Our events give voice to the passion we have for all that we do. This Events Manager position is key to our success and requires a highly organized, creative, detail-oriented, and motivated person to serve as lead for event planning, management, production, and sponsorship. This person will need to be a proactive, organized, and collaborative professional with exceptional attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills who can partner with a diverse range of stakeholders.
The Event Manager is responsible for admissions-driven, in-person and virtual events that introduce Morehouse College to prospective students, their families, and key influencers, as well as admissions-driven events that assist with yielding the quantity and quality of new students expected. Admissions events include Counselor Symposium, Open House, ASW (admitted students’ weekend), Jacks in the House, Help Center, virtual and in-person recruiting events, among others. The Event Manager will also serve as liaison from the OSMCA division to other departments running Morehouse signature events, including but not limited to Commencement, Homecoming, New Student Orientation, and more.
The position deals with a wide range of responsibilities that include event theme building, creating event materials, communicating with event attendees, marketing, contracting vendors, seeking and securing sponsorships, coordinating event logistics, timelines, and tasks as necessary for event production. The Event Manager is responsible for creating, managing, and adhering to an approved budget, engaging vendors for quotes, managing partners to ensure quality service is received, and reporting on event outcomes and ROI
The Events Manager position requires flexibility and managing priorities and conflicting time demands. The Events Manager must be able to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines. The Events Manager should have a passion for special event management, provide outstanding communication to staff, vendors, and event attendees and volunteers, be an enthusiastic professional, and be capable of building strong and positive relationships.
The Event Manager will be in the Admissions department. By nature of events, this position may require working weekends and/or evening hours. This is an exempt position. Some travel may be required.
Cultural competency, interpersonal, and collaboration skills are a must.

- Sales experience is a plus; able to build desire for Morehouse College
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education/Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, hospitality management, sales or other relevant field
· 2-3 years experience in an administrative, operational role
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Conducts short- and long-term planning and management of events
- Develops, recommends, and manages the budget
- Organizes and leads collaboration with the Marketing Team on event marketing, graphic design/production/printing, and communications
- Partners with Admissions leadership to define purpose and type of event, and event objectives
- Develops project plans to manage all aspects of events (venue selection and booking, catering, marketing, communications, décor, entertainment, signage, registration, etc.)
- Negotiates costs and services with vendors; books event space, arranges food and beverage, orders all supplies/decorations, coordinates audiovisual equipment & operation
- Organizes and manages the invitation, registration, and attendee check-in processes
- Works with venue to create/revise room layouts/seating arrangements for each event
- Communicates with all vendors and suppliers before, during, and after each event
- Executes events that foster long-term, value-based relationships with students, families, and key influencers, as well as colleagues within the College
- Creates timelines, schedules, and run-of-show as needed
- Prepares and conducts training to College staff and others as needed to successfully execute each event
- Secures volunteers; manages the staff and volunteers working at the event
- Oversees staff, volunteers, vendors, and others who will set up for, work during, and/or clean up after each event
- Handles problems that arise to help the event run smoothly
- Coaches employees to reflect College service standards and procedures
- Leads all event planning and production meetings as needed with in-house team and outside vendors to coordinate activities to ensure the success of each event
- Is on-site at all events, for the duration of the event, as supervisor, to handle requests and issues that may arise
- Ensures events comply with insurance, health, and safety standards
- Effectively reports out on the event outcomes and ROI
- Manage the follow-up with vendors, sponsors, and staff members following each event
- Counsel and advise prospective students and their families about the admission process
- Assist with coordination of campus visit programs, including information sessions, virtual sessions, registration programs, and others as needed.
Physical Demands
Driving Requirements: Some local driving and delivery may be required
Travel Requirements: Less than 20%.
Physical Demands: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill responsibilities.
Work Environment: This position is an office setting; the person will be in a sedentary position 50% of the time and standing or walking for 50% of the time. Must be able to walk around the campus without limitations, as well as travel. Morehouse work-from-home policies apply to this position. By nature of events, this position may require working weekends and/or evening hours. This is an exempt position.
