Job Description

Under general supervision, performs full range of unskilled and semi-skilled manual tasks relating to the assembly and disassembly of public events activities and maintenance of the Convention Center facilities and equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform a wide variety of duties in the preparation of public events related to set-ups including but not limited to assembling, arranging, and disassembling furniture, tables, chairs, and staging.
  • Perform various custodial duties including sweeping, scrubbing, removal of debris, and mopping between and during events.
  • Perform a wide variety of duties in connection with the maintenance of the building, grounds, and equipment such as painting; basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry repair; and mechanical repair of facility equipment (e.g., forklift, mechanical sweeper, etc.)

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate required equipment and tools including forklift, mechanical sweeper, hand radio, etc.
  • Provide information and give directions.
  • Notify supervisor of equipment and facilities in need of repair as well as supplies that need to be ordered.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and practices used in maintenance and custodial work.
  • Knowledge of safety practices, procedures, and regulations applicable to work being performed.
  • Skill in basic carpentry, painting and equipment worker.
  • Ability to work irregular hours as required.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment with rigorous deadlines.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and make decisions.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to seeing, pushing, stooping, and climbing to and from extreme heights.
  • Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to forklift, lawn mower, buffer and hand radio. Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Subject to fume/odor, dust/mites, chemical, mechanical, and electrical hazards.


Qualifying Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED, plus a minimum or one (1) year experience performing general facility or building maintenance work or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Operator’s License, Class C.
