The Event Photographer supports the mission of University Advancement and Alumni Relations by capturing high-quality images at select institutional events. This position is responsible for attending occasional university-sponsored functions, including alumni gatherings, donor events, and campus celebrations, to document key moments and participant engagement. The photographer will produce visual content that highlights the university’s community, supports storytelling
efforts, and enhances communications and marketing initiatives. This is a non-essential, as-needed position with event assignments scheduled in advance based on departmental needs. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical photography skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in dynamic event settings while maintaining a professional and unobtrusive presence.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Attend assigned University Advancement and Alumni Relations events, including evenings and occasional weekends, to provide professional photography coverage.
Capture high-quality, candid and posed images that reflect the spirit, engagement, and key moments of each event.
Deliver a minimum of 70–100 professionally edited and processed images per event, ensuring consistency in quality and style.
Perform basic photo editing and retouching, including color correction, cropping, exposure adjustments, and minor blemish removal.
Ensure timely delivery of final images in accordance with departmental deadlines and formatting requirements.
Coordinate with event organizers and staff to understand key moments, priorities, and photography needs prior to each event.
Exercise discretion and professionalism while photographing alumni, donors, guests, and university leadership.
Adhere to university branding guidelines and visual standards in all photography outputs.
Requirements:
Demonstrated experience in event photography, including capturing candid and staged images in dynamic environments.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proficiency with digital photography equipment and photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or similar tools).
Ability to perform basic photo editing and retouching to produce polished, professional-quality images.
Strong portfolio showcasing relevant photography work, preferably including event or institutional photography.
Ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Compensation Pay Range:
$50 per hour
