Position Purpose summary:

The Event Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the local Grub Hub program.

Accountabilities:

Operations

  • Create weekly volunteer schedules for meal preparation and distribution days.

  • Oversee the preparation of healthy lunches on Mondays and Wednesdays.

  • Coordinate the distribution of lunches at Bluewater Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

  • Ensure food safety standards and hygiene practices are followed.

  • Manage inventory of food, supplies and giveaway items.

  • Connect with community services and schedule times for their partnership in the program.

  • Welcome and engage with program participants, helping create a warm, inclusive atmosphere.

  • Promote a sense of community connection and belonging among volunteers and participants.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Provide oversight and guidance by managing community volunteers including their recruitment, orientation, scheduling and monitoring performance.

  • Support, assist, train, and demonstrate work methods and ensure that the participants and volunteers work together to achieve the purpose of the Grub Hub program.

  • Provide worksite feedback as required to ensure participants and placements health and safety and success.

  • Conduct and log placement check ins and provide feedback.

Communication

  • Network with TSA, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of participants and program.

  • Ongoing communication with Community and Family Services Manager

Reporting

  • Maintain accurate attendance records of participants and volunteers.

  • Maintain organized and accurate metrics as required for grant reporting.

Health and Safety

  • Responsible for the following, work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations, use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer, report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries or illness, work in a manner as required by the employer, and report workplace injuries or illness.

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.

Perform other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week for 3 months from June 2026 – August 2026.

  • The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.

  • The working environment is typically in the Wiarton office/church and Bluewater Park.

  • This job requires reaching, bending, and working in a sitting and standing position for periods of time.

  • Ability to lift/move up to 30 pounds on a regular basis.

Normal hours of work: Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Submit as required a Police Record Check (vulnerable sector check) that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.

  • This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:   

  • aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period; 

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;

  • a valid Social Insurance Number;

  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. 

  • International students are not eligible participants.  International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.

  • Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible

  • An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Undergraduate Students are encouraged to apply.

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Current Safe Food Handlers certificate or willingness to obtain.

  • Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered

  • A valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License is required.

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Good computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.

  • Understanding for individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds

  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.

  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

  • Ability to work effectively with youth and adults from diverse backgrounds.

  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Comfort with basic food handling and willingness to follow safety guidelines.

  • A positive, compassionate, and community-minded approach.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $23.10 to $28.88 with a maximum of $34.65.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
