The Store Shift Supervisor is a critical asset to a store’s daily operation at Milam’s Markets. A Store Shift Supervisor is responsible for the successful operation of the entire store in accordance with Milam’s Markets policies and procedures during his/her shift. The Store Shift Supervisor is a key-holder for the store and is either the first person to enter the store or the last person to leave during the day. Responsible for running the store during his/her shift, the Store Shift Supervisor is the person that all staff are accountable to and whom the Store Shift Supervisor must lead and manage accordingly.
Compensation:
As the schedule requires 50 hours per week, the scheduled 10 hours of Overtime will result in 10 hours of Overtime Premium Pay (one-and-a-half times the regular rate). Accountable to store financial goals, Store Shift Supervisors are also eligible for Performance-Based Incentive Compensation (Store Bonus Program).
Bonus Program:
Shift Supervisors are eligible to participate in a performance-based incentive programs, which include monthly sales bonus opportunity, as well as annual bonus opportunity for other financial metrics. The program varies by store location but the average annual bonus opportunity for Shift Supervisors is $7,000.
Paid Time-Off:
After successfully completing a 90-day probationary period, Shift Supervisors will accrue two weeks' vacation, three paid holidays, and three paid sick days (if needed), annually.
Schedule:
Store Shift Supervisors must maintain open schedule flexibility with minimal restrictions throughout the week. Schedules will mostly include closing shifts, but may include opening shifts and middle shifts. Store Shift Supervisors are scheduled for 50 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
The Store Shift Supervisor is accountable towards executing the plans for the store set by the Store Director and Assistant Managers, yet must also ensure the BEST Quality, Variety, and Service (QVS) in the store at all times. The Store Shift Supervisor is directly responsible for the Shopping Experience of our customers, and must keep this at the top of mind at all times.
The Store Shift Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring a positive work environment for the staff, and ensuring the staff are able to complete their duties/responsibilities effectively. Milam’s Markets is nothing without its teams of exceptional staff, and it is our responsibility as leaders and members of management to empower our staff to be the very best they can be. This responsibility also entails holding our staff accountable to the Company’s expectations and conducting appropriate conversations when our staff are not contributing towards the store’s QVS as expected.
Ultimately, the Store Shift Supervisor is working to maximizing sales, optimizing gross profits, and adhering to labor targets and is accountable, with the rest of the management team, to these metrics.
Duties:
The Store Shift Supervisor will perform whatever is necessary to fulfill his/her responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s philosophy and policies. These duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Managing Staff
Remaining an expert of the Company’s policies and handbook.
Participate in interviewing, onboarding, and training new employees.
Plan, monitor, and appraise staff’s work and results.
Guide staff towards maximum performance.
Instruct staff how to properly complete assigned tasks and ensure QVS.
Develop and grow staff through ongoing training, mentoring, and support.
Promote accountability to expectations by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees.
Schedule employees as needed and adhere to payroll/labor targets.
Assisting Customers
Ensure a QVS shopping experience by providing exceptional customer service
Ensure staff are effectively assisting and tending to customers
Transform complaints into positive solutions for both the customer and our store.
Respond appropriately to escalating and negative situations involving customers.
Communicate customer concerns or questions to the rest of the management team.
Follow-up on items requested by customers to ensure the customer receives an accurate and timely response.
Establish relationships with customers as a familiar presence in the store (treat them like neighbors).
Ensuring QVS Operations
Ensure the store fulfils all legal, health and safety guidelines, including food safety.
Protect employees and customers by ensuring a safe and clean store environment.
Deploy staff appropriately to achieve necessary tasks and maintain QVS.
Proactively walk and inspect the sales floor to identify opportunities and react accordingly.
Walk and inspect the department preparation areas and backrooms to ensure proper adherence to company policies and procedures.
Remain vigilant for issues with facilities or equipment and report through appropriate channels.
Monitor refrigeration equipment for proper operation.
Conduct a proper hand-off when taking the store over from the previous manager or shift supervisor and when leaving the store to the next manager or shift supervisor.

A Store Shift Supervisor must meet the following qualifications:
Proven Leadership abilities
Extensive experience in the retail environment
Superior customer service abilities
Keen eye for noticing opportunities that may exist or arise in the store
Exhibit a mind-set for problem-solving and solutions
Ability to grasp concepts quickly and ask appropriate questions to enhance understanding
Minimal schedule restrictions to allow for flexible scheduling, including ability to open or close the store, as needed
Ability to work a 50-hour schedule each week (sometimes more if the circumstances require it)
Store Shift Supervisor Training Program
A Store Shift Supervisor must have successfully completed and graduated from the Store Shift Supervisor Training Program – a three-month program designed to prepare qualified candidates for a successful transition into Store Shift Supervisor according to Milam’s Markets standards.
Requires flexible scheduling and reliable transportation to multiple stores
Trainees will be accountable to a Store Director that will serve as the Training Mentor throughout the program
Trainees will complete a variety of training exercises with the company’s best trainers
