JOB TITLE: Evening SAIOP Therapist

LOCATION: New Hanover

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from a Master’s degree program in social work, counseling, or clinical or substance use treatment psychology
  • LCAS through NCSAPPB required; and/or LCSW, LCSW-A/LPA/LCMHC-A, LCHMC

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Provides independent diagnostic, psycho-social and professional counseling for adult clients with complicated substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorders- with an appropriate level of supervision. Facilitates Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (SAIOP) in the evening.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASSIFICATION:

  • Provides independent diagnostic and psycho-social evaluations and counseling which focus on complicated substance use as well as the issues generated from its impact on daily living and individual and family relationships.
  • Facilitating an SAIOP group to focus on relapse prevention skills, family issues, support needs, emotion regulation skills, mental health education, life skills, and interpersonal effectiveness skills.
  • Provides case management and community support to SAIOP clients to arrange, link, or integrate multiple services for SAIOP as well as assessment and reassessment of the client’s need for services.
  • Conduct an in-depth clinical interview to determine psycho-social and substance use history, formulate a psycho-social assessment and initial treatment plan; provide in-depth counseling which can range from crisis intervention to dealing with personality disorders which are associated with their addictive and/or abusive behavior, and follow-up.
  • The counseling methods are best characterized as individual and group utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, family, and supportive modalities. It is individualized depending on the needs of the clients.
  • Work with community partners to ensure individuals are engaging in the recommended treatment and utilize ASAM to recommend clients to appropriate level of care.
