The University Hospital Vall d'Hebron is highly specialised in rare diseases. The scientific direction of the European Reference Network ERN-EuroBloodNet, www.eurobloodnet.eu, dedicated to Rare Haematological Diseases (RHD), is led by Dr Mar Mañú Pereira, head of the Rare Anaemia Disorders research lab at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute.
In line with the Health data strategy at the European level, our team is coordinating several projects on European patients’ registries for rare haematological diseases: we are collecting patients’ data from all over Europe to provide enough evidence for shaping European health policies and to enable researchers to access standardised, comparable data, ultimately aiming at providing better care to patients affected by RHDs. In the context of the upcoming European Health Data Space (EHDS), which will regulate the Sharing of health data in Europe, these projects are of strategic interest.
In this context, we are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented European Projects Financial Officer to join our Finance & Operations Team. The successful candidate will provide financial support for the implementation of European research projects, contributing to budget monitoring, expenditure eligibility checks, financial forecasting, and the preparation of financial reports and audit documentation. The role also includes overseeing the processing and tracking of project-related invoices, ensuring the timely collection of supporting documentation for the financial justification of project expenses, maintaining accurate financial and operational records, overseeing the organisation of business travel and project events, processing travel expense reimbursement claims, and coordinating with external suppliers and service providers to ensure the timely delivery of services and products. In addition, the European Projects Financial Officer will provide support for HR processes such as onboarding and new hire documentation, and contribute to the continuous improvement of financial and administrative procedures supporting research projects.
Provide financial support for project budget monitoring, including eligibility checks, expenditure analysis, and budget forecasting.
Support the preparation of periodic and final financial reports, financial audit documentation, and other financial reporting requirements.
Maintain up-to-date financial and operational tracking documents.
Oversee the processing and tracking of project-related invoices (accounts payable and receivable).
Ensure the timely collection of supporting documentation required for the financial justification of project expenses.
Oversee business travel arrangements to ensure compliance with project and institutional requirements.
Oversee the organisation of project events, including planning, logistics, vendor coordination, and on-site arrangements.
Oversee the processing of travel expense reimbursement claims.
Oversee interactions with external providers and suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of services and products.
Provide support for human resources processes, including new hire documentation and onboarding activities.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial and administrative processes supporting research projects.
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business and/or Accounting
Fluency in English (business level)
Project Management Certification: PMP, PRINCE2, or similar certification is a plus.

At least 1 year of experience as European Projects Financial Management Officer or equivalent roles performing the described tasks.
Proficiency in Excel.
Ability to multi-task and prioritise the work.
Strong time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience in the management of European Health Projects, with special emphasis on Horizon Europe and EU4Health.
Previous experience in health/biomedical research environment.

Working hours Full-time (37.5 hours per week).

Gross annual salary Remuneration will be determined by experience, skills and responsibilities and aligned with the Collective Agreement pay scale.
