Job Description

LMW, on behalf of the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) is looking for an Asylum Procedures Officer- interim support (First Instance - Casework/ Team Leader) to join their team.

The Asylum Procedures Officer – interim support (First Instance – Casework/Team Leader) works under the supervision of EUAA in performing some or all of the following tasks:

• Work as Team Leader of a team of Asylum Procedures Officers (First Instance - Casework), under the guidance of the EUAA Quality Team and in close cooperation with the GAS Quality Focal Point (QFP);
• Provide guidance to the team members on interviews, opinions and procedural issues in accordance with the GAS SOPs and other EUAA and GAS quality guidance;
• Review opinions of the team members in advance of submission, in view of assuring general compliance with the GAS Standard Operating Procedures and other EUAA and GAS quality guidance, in particular for junior team members;
• Provide support to team members, in particular focused coaching for junior team members, shadowing and thematic coaching according to needs, etc;
• Monitor and follow-up on the productivity of team members in order to ensure the implementation of the agreed productivity targets;
• Participate locally in meetings with other Team Leaders and, the GAS Quality Focal Points in order to discuss complex cases, issues raised regarding specific cases and other team challenges in view of achieving the implementation of a common approach;
• Participate in monthly meetings with EUAA Quality Team and GAS Asylum Processes & Training Unit to discuss general team challenges and issues on implementation, identify needs for trainings, needs for specific procedural guidance, country guidance and/or other guidance, etc.;
• Participate in meetings and trainings organised by EUAA and/or the GAS Asylum Processes & Training Unit and act as multiplier for the team;
• Comply with the productivity targets;
• Research country of origin information for the needs of the processed cases;
• Keep updated, maintain excellent understanding of and implement all developments in guidance, quality feedback, SOPs;
• Perform support tasks for the processing of applications for international protection at first instance, in accordance with the relevant working instructions;
• Perform the tasks of Asylum Procedures Officer - interim support (First Instance – Casework), when requested, including;
• Conduct interviews with applicants for international protection when requested;
• Prepare opinions on applications for international protection when requested;
• Be available to participate in missions, as per the operational needs of EUAA;
• Participate in meetings with the EUAA Field Coordinator/Field Support Officer and provide respective information;
• Attend other regular team meetings or ad hoc meetings, as requested;
• Participate in trainings organised by EUAA or other stakeholders, as requested;
• Provide regular analytical and statistical reports of provided services and challenges;
• Draft documents, templates, minutes and reports;
• Perform any other tasks in the interest of the service, relevant for the specific profile.

Requirements

• University degree is required, preferably in the field of law, political, humanitarian, social studies;
• Post-graduate degree will be considered as an asset;
• Demonstrated previous experience of at least 3 years working as Asylum Procedures Officer (First Instance – Casework) preferably in EUAA Operations or in performing quality-related tasks for refugee status determination procedures will be considered as an asset;
• Certified proficiency in Greek and English (oral and written) at C1/C2 level;
• Computer literacy, including MS Office applications (Word, Excel), use of internet and web-based applications is required;
• Very good understanding of the Greek migration and asylum context;
• Excellent intercultural/interdisciplinary communication and cooperation skills;
• Excellent organisational and analytical skills;
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and under pressure.

• Please note that the current vacancies are for Diavata and Leros.
• With regard to potential future openings, candidates may also indicate an interest in Lesvos, Samos, Kos, Chios, Malakasa and/or Athens. Their interest will be recorded, and they may be considered for opportunities in these locations should future operational needs arise.
