EU Public Affairs Account Manager - Hanbury Strategy

About Hanbury Strategy

We turn insight into impact. Whether a client is facing a communications challenge or has a policy goal, our exceptional team uses our understanding of politics, public opinion and the press to create campaigns that work. We have a relentless focus on achieving great results for our clients.

The role

Founded in 2016, Hanbury continues to focus on delivering client excellence and growing our business. We are looking to bring on board a driven Account Manager to help service existing public affairs accounts, with opportunities to help support our ongoing growth.

The successful candidate will have a passion for politics and a growing understanding of the EU political and regulatory landscape, committed to delivering excellent client service in a fast-paced consulting environment.

You will be a key member of a team that provides cutting-edge regulatory & political analysis and engagement advice to some of the most exciting global companies, working closely with senior colleagues and with support from executives. You will have experience working for the EU institutions, a think tank, in-house, in a relevant trade association, or in consultancy.

Main role and responsibilities

You will work with colleagues at all levels, from Executives to Partners, driving the delivery of excellent work and client service. You will be involved in a range of tasks and projects, which might include:

  • Draft clear regulatory and political analysis for internal and external audiences.
  • Manage projects independently while meeting deadlines.
  • Conduct research on new subject matters.
  • Serve and advise clients on complex EU policy, regulatory, and political developments.
  • Attend external events to increase their knowledge and understanding of relevant sectors and share insights and connections with the wider team.

Client Management

  • Act as the day-to-day account manager on a portfolio of accounts, fostering positive client relationships.
  • Handle general account administration effectively, demonstrating great attention to detail with little to no instruction and guidance, and delegating appropriately.
  • Develop an understanding of client needs and make useful suggestions for key deliverables such as policy monitoring and detailed research.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking to produce strategic advice for clients and contribute positively to meetings and brainstorms.
  • Contribute positively to client meetings and take responsibility for status reports and other client reporting.

Business Development

  • Demonstrate good presentation skills, playing a positive and active role in pitches and proposals.
  • Start to build an external network.

Leadership & Development

  • Take ownership of your own personal development, seeking out training opportunities and new approaches to innovate Hanbury's ways of working.
  • Work successfully with colleagues, including delegation, mentoring and time management, setting an appropriate example.

Culture

  • Share feedback and contribute ideas to help develop the culture within the team, on accounts, and across the wider organisation.
  • Find a way to personalise and embody the Hanbury values day-to-day.

The ideal candidate profile:

  • Has a growing understanding of the EU political and regulatory landscape, with an interest in developing this further. This role is not sector-specific, though we encourage candidates to consider their suitability in supporting Hanbury’s client portfolio.
  • Has 2-3 years experience working for the EU institutions, a think tank, in-house, in a relevant trade association, or in consultancy.
  • Can think laterally and has effective problem-solving skills.
  • Can manage multiple deadlines effectively, with great attention to detail.
  • Is dedicated to producing high quality work and going the extra mile in a fast-paced environment.
  • Has good presentation skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Has first class verbal and written communication skills in English; with additional EU languages considered a plus, especially French.
  • Wants to be part of a dynamic team and drive a positive working environment.
  • Enjoys working with people with a diverse range of backgrounds and opinions.
  • You have the right to live and work in Belgium / EU.

Benefits

  • 26 days' paid leave plus bank holidays and time off over Christmas.
  • Normal working hours are 9am - 6pm.
  • 4% group assurance (pension) employer contribution.
  • Eligible for the company's 2027 CCT90 bonus scheme.
  • Monizze Lunch Vouchers, Eco Vouchers and a monthly travel allowance.
  • Health insurance policy.
  • Work From Abroad (WFA) policy for up to 4 weeks a year.
  • You will be based in Brussels, but asked to travel as necessary to London or other parts of Europe.
